Hi - I get this error with a lot of legacy stuff - can someone explain
it better so I can fix, ignore, or  at least understand it?

ERROR:  An Extended Memory Manager is already installed.  XMS Driver not
installed.

It happens with with pre-XP-created DOS shortcuts, and some DOS
programs.  (like ERROUT).

Thanks
/j

That's because you are trying to run a DOS program on a NON-DOS system -
WinXP is not DOS nor is it built on DOS - it does have a DOS emulator, but
it is just that, an emulator.

Yet the programs run - can I ignore the error, or is there a fix I can
make to eliminate it (i.e., am I not running DOS programs the 'proper' way?)

You may be able to eliminate the message by running in "compatibility" mode.
Check the "Help and Support" on how to run a legacy program in compatibility
mode (aka using the compatibility wizard).

Small Note:  If you want to learn how to fix/do something, I'll point you to
it, but if you want me to do your work for you, it will cost you $50 USD per
hour - your choice.
