had a family debate just before... about the origins of shakira... my sister reckons she sounds indian, but im pretty sure she is mexican, as ive got alot of what i think is her older music. got it years ago before she was famus in the west.
so the question:
IS the 'shakira' that sings songs such as
'ojos asi'
'si te vas'
'no creo'
or
'un poco de amor'
the same shakira that we all know that sings
'whenever wherever'
and shakes her shakey ass allover the place???
being the shakira expert im sure u would know.

ok cool...
well she has certainly sluttified herself appropriately for the american market.
saw 3 pics of her 3 albums.
the first two she has med and med-long BLACK hair, first completely straight, second minor curls at the bottom, then suddenly for laundry service we see acres of skin, tones of makup and 'bugger me' blond curls.
big change

I know. She's being "Marketed" for the third (first english) album. But I do believe she writes her own stuff, so thats cool. And the Whenever, Wherever song is pretty good even without the video, so thats cool too!

i think a time will come though when the music industry will implode under the weight of pretty but useless bimbo's they pump out. people will eventually rebel and demand original music from real singers.
(not to say that she is a bimbo, but i think its kinda sad that she has to go to such lengths to get her work recognised & accepted)
i for one dont buy any of that crap anymore...
even if i do buy a cd, it has to have at least 3 or 4 songs on it i really like.
shakira comes close, but not quite close enuf.
i also have the strong impression that her earlier work is alot more original and better.
if i could find her first two cd's i would buy them.

yea, there are very few artists i could say all their stuff is good, thats why i dont buy many cds, i usually only buy compilation cds, live mixes and what have you.
This is my current MP3 list. I almost never buy CD's I lend them from others or download them.
But realism in the music industry is exactly what we don’t need, because it is just that for capitalist reasons we need dumb idiots pretending they can make decent music!
It SURE makes me appreciate the EAGLES etc and that era, imagine that stuff re-emerging, no more calling smoke skunk it would be called buddha & sinse again. wow I might join bud' in his adventures after 18 years of wonder and lost in the wilderness.
I think this all depends on what genre you are listening to. I have, for the most part, turned away from Pop Music. Occasionally, I will listen to some songs on the radio, but many of the artists nowadays are "One Hit Wonders". It is difficult in today's popular market to make it big and be able to stick around.
One trend I have recognized is that the artists that make it big on their first try end up getting typecast into that sound. If they try to experiment, they get shunned. The artists that slave away doing clubs for years before they cut an album deal usually have such a large repetoire that they could easily make 5 albums in one sitting. They pace themselves and usually have a loyal fan base so that they can experiment and not be ignored.
My favorites include:
Progressive Rock - Dream Theater, Everon, Angra, Spock's Beard, Yes. These bands usually have great variety on each album that each song is great in its own right;
Blues rock - SRV, Peter Green, Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Sheperd, Indigenous, Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, etc.;
Classic Rock - BOSTON! The others in this category were already mentioned;
Country - George Strait, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Lone Star, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and let's not forget Shania Twain. This is my sappy outlet since I cut out R&B . . . better songwriting, better presentation . . . plus they use real guitars!

most of the music i listen to is rave type music, happy hardcore, jungle (jump and dark) and break beats. most of that music is sold on compilation cds, i only have a few cds that are by one artist. but most of the dark jungle is very hard to find on anything but vinyl.
techno and trans are a grey area, techno sometimes sounds a lot like break beats, and trance sounds like a mix of jungle and break beats, with a bit of happy hardcore. any one here listen to happy hardcore?
First, most techno tunes has a BPM of around 120-140 roughly, not 160-170 like
breakbeats.
Techno has 4-beat, breakbeats does not. Well sometimes, but then you venture into the realm of happy hardcore with all those "unatural-happy" melodies on top.
