cable can go on only one way right? and anyway i switched cables too and still no go, im going to switch everything over to a new case when it arrives so hopefully i can find out what the hell it is when i do that

Cable can go on right, or 180 Degrees around. Meaning you can plug in in upside down.

Try command line type sfc /scannow and be sure the space is between c / . It will ask you to put in your OS disk and it will check to see if any files are corrupt and replace them. My floppy wasn't working in a new build I did and this cured it!
