PLZ Help. Onboard Sound has delays

I have the ECS K7VMM. It came with optical out and everything seemed to be working great. I added the radeon AIW 7500 and AMD 1600XP. The only problem I have with this motherboard is the optical out has a delay in DVD playback. I ran a system performance diagnostic which came with the AIW and it said their was a delay in the sound. They said this is common with onboard sound. Is there a way to overcome this? Bios latency/timings? I dunno. Thats the help I need. Anyone?

Side note: I've tried another sound card (Hercules Fort III 7.1) but it has another long story with it. I'm willing to buy another type of card if it has otical out on the back (my 5.25 bay is used). And ultimately I'll put in a whole new motherboard (microATX/slotA) if its optical out will perform well.

I'd prefer to get the onboard optical performing well since I already got stung by hercules.
