So what does everybody think about cloning, Its all over the media here at the moment, with religious people saying only God can create man (Which, incidentally I think is a crock) and the scientists saying we can and should, If you had ever seen a loved one work thier way through a Grand Mal seizure, as I have seen my brother, then you would be all for it, as I am, but I temper this with a note of caution, Theraputic cloning is one thing, Scientific cloning is another thing entirely, and call me paranoid, but all this study must eventually lead back to the military, If they could breed a better stronger soldier capable of taking multiple hits and keep on going, do you think they wouldent?, also the US govt has adopted a head in the sand attitude by banning cloning studies in America, by allowing it they could moniter the results, have it so that cloning companies must report thier findings every 6 weeks or so,banning only forces studies offshore, which means the US Govt has to rely on others for data on cloning.
So guys what do you think?
stem cell research is where it's at. we should be able to clone tissue and cells needed for a lot of treatments without having to clone people. also gene thearapy is good way forward

I say clone em´all!, at least I want a clone of myself.
Just think about it, I can stay home doing what I´m best at, namely chill out while my clone is busy working his butt off, taking care of the dishes etc etc.
Well, you must ofcourse make my clone a retard first, I´t wont work if he´s as smart and handsome as I am!
<font color=blue>Be yourself, do whatever <font color=red>you</font color=red> like</font color=blue> (Not at my expense though)
I have no moral objection to making a full clone of myself merely to harvest its organs, it exists only because of me, and if properly cloned can have its brain removed or severaly impared to avoid the moral dilemma of it gaining conciousness.
We raise cattle to eat, we should be able to clone ourselves for organs, period.

If it would be possible to easily clone organs, donor problems are solved.
But you're right cloning can be used to do evil too.

I think cloning can solve a lot fo medical problems and only fools would ban it believing it's sacrilegious. Had God not wanted us to use cloning technology, He wouldn't have given us the power to understand science to the level we do now.

I agree with you on this research, but not to the harvesting of human embryos. The stem cell research on the uses of the umbilical cord seems to be a more viable option.

That's not a very solid argument, IMO.

Spare embryos from I.V.F.?... Isn't a test tube embryo the same as a live human being? When does life begin? I disagree with I.V.F. research in support of stem cell research.

May I ask, which are you sir, judge, defense attorney, prosecutor, district attorney, or juror? Or, do you really think you can read a person's character to prejudge their opinion concerning matters close to the heart of God, based on what is morally right or wrong?
If that is the case, congradulations! You do have a conscience.

I'm not talking about I.V.F for stem cell research. I'm talking about I.V.F for couples who have difficulty conceiving naturally. There are always Spare embryos. However you look at it, if not put to use these embryos would be a waste of tissue/life. I'm not judging weather or not they should have been created in the first place, I'm asking you how you feel about them being put to this particular use.

Yup, I see your point. He's a better argument. How do you define life? When does something become alive? Is a single stem cell alive? For that matter is a single individual cell in the body alive alone? If so, does that mean you are killing living beings everytime you get a scratch? Wouldn't that suggest that getting a cut or scratch is immoral? If a single cell alone in the human body isn't life on it's own, at what point do you have life? A single cell? A dozen cells? A hundred? A thousand? An entire organ?

and what of<A HREF="http://cellbio.utmb.edu/cellbio/mitoch1.htm" target="_new"> Mitochondria</A> .. they are living creatures in all of us without which we can not exist (they are instrumental to <A HREF="http://www.people.virginia.edu/~rjh9u/krebs.html" target="_new">Krebs</A> cycle which is where we (they) change what we eat into energy we can use on a molecular level) and each and every one of them has dna that can be traced back to a common "grandmother" of the human race in africa... when we die is it murder that we take them with us ??

I think Bush and his boyz made a grave error to ban all forms of human cloning .. it is in effect (pardon the pun) "throwing out the baby with the bath water" there aren't any scientists of any worth or repute that favor the cloning of replica people however medical cloning would allow perfect matches for transplants and eliminate the tragic waiting lists. Think of kids with luekemia and the mom with breast cancer( no pike we will NOT clone extra tits for your nuzzling pleasure) and so on when you consider this law

That is exactly the same decision that President Bush had to make when the plug was pulled on the recent stem cell research of human embyros after it was called to a stopped. Really tough call IMO, but I supported his decision to use the remaining for this type research opposed to simply trashing them.
However, the normal ongoing I.V.F. spare embryos seems to be a Pandora's box, that I haven't heard anyone address yet. Well, IMO I would have to say, it would definitly have to be case-by-case in regard to a life/death. For the sake of research this would need close scrutiny and regulation with specific guidlines for approved medical case studies.
You raise a very difficult question. Anyone with a concsience regarding the sanctity life will truly wrestle in heart and mind over this real life grey area. Honestly, I really cannot say right out what I would do, but it would definitely be a matter of prayer for me personally.

My opinion on embryos is that if they are spare, and they are going to be thrown out anyway, then why not use them, to discard them would be a waste, It seems that people cant mount a solid rational defense against this, So they roll out the God argument, which as Ive said is a crock
We use bodies for cadavirs after all too, what's the difference.

Your making yourself look stupid here. If i have to explain to you that animals think and have some intelligence then you got a problem.
<font color=red>:</font color=red> <font color=white>:</font color=white> <font color=blue>:</font color=blue>
Mammals have been proven to be intelligent. However, it's not completely clear whether other creatures (other than birds) are intelligent or not. They could be acting completely instinctively.
AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the <b>ULTIMATE</b> PC processor
Some insects are intelligent too. No need to get into specifics, all I'm saying is animals can think and have some intelligence on some level. Ofcourse ya know depending on the creature in question.

Yea ok, not that I would even consider those animals...
<font color=red>:</font color=red> <font color=white>:</font color=white> <font color=blue>:</font color=blue>
an animal by definition is any organisim that can move under its own power .. getting back to where this started things that can not think can be alive whether they are plants or fungi or bacteria or humans ...they still live .. deep in the oceans are animals and life forms that metabolize what would be toxic chemicals to surface life but to them it is what they need to live ... the definition of life is neccessarily broad and will become broader as life forms are discovered off of this little rock orbiting about the milky way galaxy...

1. A multicellular organism of the kingdom Animalia, differing from plants in certain typical characteristics such as capacity for locomotion, nonphotosynthetic metabolism, pronounced response to stimuli, restricted growth, and fixed bodily structure.
Not that i really care if a virus or germ could be considered an animal, in my mind they don't register as that. More of a parasite or something. Are they even in the animal kingdom?
<font color=red>:</font color=red> <font color=white>:</font color=white> <font color=blue>:</font color=blue>
they are animals .. the definition you posted confirms this .. parasites ?? they are not all small insects .. in fact vampire bats in S.A. are fairly large and are mammals ..

If they fall under that definition then they have some form of intelligence, even instinct is thinking somewhat. Anyway animals (which is refering to mammals in most context's) are intelligent if you don't think so then whatever.

When an asteroid is coming for earth, and those atom bombs save us, you will sing a different tune.
Atomic bombs have never been misused in their existance, hiroshima and nagasaki arguably saved more lives then they took, tools are neutral, only man can use them for good or evil.
