I was wondering what kind of game engine Everquest uses? Is it a single threaded or multithreaded? Also, does anyone know if Sony Online Entertainment plans to change the game engine anytime soon? The reason I ask is in CPU selection. Debating between an E8400 Dual Core and Q6600 Quad Core. Would I notice much of a difference playing the game between these two CPU's? This is really the only game I play, and want to design a system that will last for a few years. Either CPU will be paired with an 8800GTS G92 512MB video card. Thanks for any comments and suggestions. I just do not know a whole lot about the designs behind software and games nowadays.

I wish I could truly give you a direct answer but I have no clue. I know that EQ doesn't work well with SLI and the fps actually drop when you try. So I'm thinking you won't see much of an improvement since it is somewhat older but don't quote me on that.
