Audio not working Armada 7400

I was recently given an Armada 7400. The OS was messed up so I reformated
and installed windows 2000 pro on it. It finds the ESS1879 with not problems
but says it fails to start in the device manager. I checked ESS's website
and they say windows 2000 supports the sound card with built in driver. I
checked the bios and there are not conflicts and in windows the device
manager is detecting the correct io, dma, irqs etc. Any ideas on how to make
it work. In the bios it will not let me change the irq, dma, etc so I am
stuck with what it is set at.
