I have a LG VX10 phone. Back in March, I updated my PRL to 50153.
Surprisingly, I saw my battery life increase.
Last week, I updated to PRL 50160. Now my battery life has
*decreased*.
My understanding of the PRL is to tell the phone what towers/provider
to use when outside my home area. I rarely travel outside my home area
(Columbus, OH). So, I wouldn't think the PRL would even be used much
of the time. Thus I don't see how it would impact battery life - but
there has been a noticeable decrease in battery life since updating to
PRL 50160.

Given the scenario you describe, my guess is it's coincidence.
If you're using a VX10 (a great little phone IMHO), you've probably had it a
while and the battery may be starting to get a little flaky from use/age.

I had the very same thing happen to me. Here are the details:
* Was using PRL 50153 in Atlanta and NY for four months. Battery life
pretty much the same between charges in both cities
* Updated my VX-4400B to PRL 50160 in Atlanta
* Noted marked battery life decrease while in Manhattan, NY for a week
* Returned to Atlanta and batter life is back to where it had been.
Weird, but very true. Phone battery needed daily charging in NY on
PRL50160, but doesn't in Atlanta.

Is this a tri mode phone? Might you have been getting an analog signal?
My LG4400 has begun getting analog signals right in the middle of
Manhattan and I'm not very happy about it. Aside from the fact that I
miss half my calls, I als hav much lower battery life just because of
being in analog a fair amount of the time.

Up in Wisconsin the 50160 PRL has changed the coverage in Wausau, WI from
Digital #362 (Extended Network) to Analog #240 (Extended Network). Even
though both are the same company (CellCom) the battery on these toy phones
just isn't made for this analog deal.

Rod-
I am not sure if they have removed system 362 from the PRL as Extended
Network or if they have just put system 240 above it in priority, but
regardless, I am sure the changes have not yet been made to the billing
system to charge you for using system 362 (if indeed it is now a roaming
carrier).
You should be able to force your phone to use system 362 instead of 240. On
my LG 4400 I can go into programming, set my home SID to whatever I want,
then go into a user-accessible menu and set it to "home only" which will
then force me to only use that SID. I do this all the time in southern
Oregon where I prefer to use USCellular over Ramcell.
Hope this helps!

I force it into #362 D by forcing CDMA only while in that area and it still
shows up as Extended. It is a pain to remember to do every time I get in
that area when it used to it automatically. However the benifits for being
digital far exceeds the labor.
