The Sci-Fi Channel has teamed up with game developer Trion World Network to simultaneously develop a new combined MMO and TV show that will allow players to affect the show's storyline. Can it work?

Sounds very ambitious as well as very intriguing. My biggest concern with the "players affecting the storyline" aspect is how will that work with current server system that most MMOs employ. Obviously to make any storyline coherent they'd have to follow certain servers and not others. Even if they rotate stories between several servers many would be left out and people would be overflowing those that get the televised stories. Either that or create one giant server for all players? Either way it will be interesting to see how this works.

As long as it ain't some reality tv like show, i'd probably watch (even "Survivor In Space Zombie Attacks!" would keep me away).

Has anyone watched SciFi channel's "original" movies?

I am not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling about this MMO idea. Are we going to get to play a guy that talks to the dead or a "professional" wrestler? Maybe we can chase ghost for xp...

Only things in SciFi's schedule that gets me on that station is BSG-1, Doctor Who, and The Sarah Jane Chronicles. I used to watch Stargate until it was obvious the show needed to die...

So it will be possible for the players to influence the show...this will be rich when you have InSaNe_GaNgBaNgEr5000 and Snettikehtlladelliki as the focus of next week's show...

Or maybe I am just cranky because I left my coffee on the kitchen counter at home. :pfff:

As ideas go ... this one is ... special.

I expect it to suck with the power of a thousand blackholes, but I acknowledge that if it is done well it could be very awesome. But Sci-Fi Channel... yeah black hole sucking power almost certainly.

So...no Battlestar fans out there, then? No love at all for the Sci Fi Channel?

They just need Kevin Sorbo to play a lead role and we have another winner.

The stuff they show is often good. The stuff they make themselves, not so much.

used to watch the horror nights on the weekends but that was it on Sci-Fi, also they would show some decent manga films.
