Whenever I play games, my comp goes idle or crashes. The screen turns black then the monitor goes idle while the comp is still running. My computer was running fine just a little while ago and this happened out of no wehre. I formatted my computer but still get the same problem. I am running an XP 2100+ and a Gigabyte mobo GA-7VAX KT400 chipset. My motherboard is a GEforce 4 Ti4200. Does anyone know what's wrong with my computer? I'm also running Windows XP Pro and 512 stick of PC2700 DDR RAM. Everything WAS working fine and I did not change anything. Also, it is not heat, my temperature is at 123° F and i'm running a Volcano 9 fan. any ideas will be appreciated.

What kind and wattage of power supply are you using. If it is a generic power supply, it could be a problem. Try running memtest http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html If you get any errors on that, then you know you have a memory problem. I would post back with your power supply information and run this test, at least it will eliminate some possibilities and allow you to focus your attention on others.

I am running an Enermax 550 Watt power supply that is about 15 months old. It should be working fine. I've been told that 123 F is pretty hot but it's not that hot to cause me these problems. I just downloaded a memory tester to see if it is my memory but I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be. I'll update with the memory tester.
