Hey guy,

I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but I'm going to as it anyways.

Will games run faster on a 64-bit OS or 32-bit OS. I've currently got Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 and it runs great. I was just wondering if actually spending time to look for x64 patches would be worth my time or not. Thanks.

If a game can run in 64bit mode it will run better. I can only think of a handful of games that actually have 64bit modes: Half Life 2, Far Cry, and Crysis are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there's a few more. That being said, there should not be much difference between a 32bit OS and a 64bit OS, except you can use a lot more RAM in x64 OSes.

In theory yes, in reality it's not noticeable. Until games and apps are built from the ground up 64bit there will be very little difference. Even the games listed above show little to no improvement. In the case of Crysis it actually uses less RAM when the 64bit overhead is factored in. With windows 7 now being slated to deliver both x86 and 64bit we will likely be waiting 5+ years for the 64bit revolution.
