I have about $1000 to spend on these 3 things
Mobo - A7N8X
Chip - AMD 2700 or 2800
Ram - 2x 512MB Corsair XMS 3500 or faster.

Anyone have any recommendations? I don't really plan to overclock. I don't have time for it.

OK. Ive been having second thoughts. I was thinking I could get this instead...

2x 512 Corsair XMS 3200 - $350
A7N8X - $125 ish
Chip AMD2600/333 - $300 ish (Should I get retail and play it safe or should I go oem and buy a specific HS (and which one)

That comes to 725. Then I was thinking of buying 2 80gig HD/s to replace my 2 40's. (I'll sell my 40's later)

sounds like a plan. Retail fan is fine, expecially if you don't plan to OC. The 2 WD drives are a great idea. Make sure you get the "Special" model - with the 8MB cache

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

wow. The 2800 does sound REALLY nice. I typically try to avoid the retail HS. I currently have a pure copper HS on my 1800 at home(it weighs like a bitch.) I think its an alpha but can't remember. Let me know how the Volcano works out. I'm still torn. 2600 or 2800... hmmmm. Huge difference in cost considering the little speed difference. And a gain in heat too...

ok, thanks alot. Got worried for a sec. Just to make sure, the ide cables and everything come with the retail mobo or the optical drives, right?

IDE cables usually come with retail products. But there is a chance your CDrom may not come with the audio cable. Just depends.
