When I restart, the XP startup screen appears but my account does not show
up. I need to hit CTL ALT DEL twice, then I get a popup with my account and
I can login. Once in, if I go to the control panel and open user accounts, I
get an error message saying "existing account not recognized"

Everything was working fine. I checked the registry regarding as shown in
other account problem post and can't locate the problem.

AAAAGGGGG! please help

Hi,

Sounds like your account is corrupted in some fashion. Often the only fix is
to logon as administrator, create a new account for yourself, then copy over
the user data from the old one.
