What I am looking for is a keyboard with extra keys for me to program and modify to hold a macro set of key strokes. Then when I press the key, the onboard keyboard microcontroller would send the macro map key strokes to the computer in sequence at hardware speed. The "live" keyboard would simulate in hardware the macro map keystrokes and forward it to the main computer at hardware speed. There would be no need for software drivers to interpret the macro keypress. The programming of macro is done to the keyboard onboard processor/circuit and firmware (which has a technical name of microcontroller).
This would be a perfect gaming keyboard because since you have no need for windows drivers to interpret the macro keypress, you don't have to worry about upgrading the drivers to work with specific games. You just program the onboard keyboard firmware and batta bing batta bang you got a macro map keystrokes map to a programmable key. The "live" keyboard would send it to the computer as if it was press and unpress by the user.
Please note, I am look for a solution without dealing with drivers or even making sure drivers has support for the game. A "live" keyboard with onboard microcontroller and firmware would function like any other generic 101+ keyboard. The map macro keystrokes is implemented in the hardware or firmware. SEE?
Does anyone know if there is such a keyboard? Or even one in development? Man, I have been dreaming about this keyboard for decades, and still disappointed that it is not common even though firewall software in a home router exists....
This is Tom's Hardware so hopefully somebody from manufacturing reading this can do something about it.
I have the Logitech G25, but I guess it's not what you want because it's software dependent. You can however program it on the fly and without having to switch to the software. Just press the macro button and the macro key you want the macro assigned to and then your keystrokes. can be timed or everything at once. Pretty neat IMO.
I visit logitech.com and only finds the G15 gaming keyboard. I read the stats on G15, I am wondering about the advertisement about "program on the fly". Do you need to have logitech software drivers/software running to do "program on the fly"? I am looking for one that does not require any form of software other than the standard 101+ key generic keyboard kernel level driver. Basically, nothing to run in system tray or "resident" for the keyboard hardware macro feature.
G15 is a cool looking keyboard. I bought a combo cordless keyboard + mouse LX710 with 5yr limited warranty. It has programmable macro key, but I need to run the logitech software in system tray.
Believe it or not I got it at Walmart! Why? Because it was open at midnight, my current cheapo 101 key die, I ran out of cheap spare keyboards, Walmart was open 24hours, I got back up and running in 1 hour. I love walmart now. I don't have to stock up on cheap spare parts.
I think 24hours Walmart should be a place to visit for gamers. You know, emergency spare part center. Want a working mouse at 12am in the morning? Need a usb flash stick at 4am in the morning because your dog swallow the old one? heh heh it's walmart time!
Besides, you get to stock up on candies, chips, mini powder donuts, and cokes!!!! A 24hrs super walmart center can let you stock up on shorts, t-shirts, milk, cereals, sanitizers at 3am in the morning!!!! I never dream about this when I was in college. But here it is. I gotta love Walmart. I am looking forward to be able to buy a power supply unit or mainboard from walmart, they are already selling linux system box for $200-300 buckeroos.... har har pc gamers should gotta love walmart too.
