hi i was wondering if anyone has purchased this http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx the windows 7 pro, if i can install that onto a new custom built pc or if its upgrade version.

Yes it is the upgrade version (I purchased mine for $29.99 before windows 7 came out via the same company (digital rivers).. You can call Microsoft and see if they will send you the full retail version not the upgrade (many people asked the same thing as received the full version).
