the dell 1170 wireless base station - What is the deal??

The performance from this access point just seems to be very
inconsistent. Does anybody have any experience with this??? I set up my
laptop and it talks to it for a little while then it just stops talking to
it. It was working ok when i was just using it for internet access but after
I started using it with another laptop to create a home office network it is
always really spotty. I keep it kind of close to a cordless phone, will that
tend to freak it out. Also does anybody know how to delete a workgroup after
it is created?? I just want to get back to where I was before.
