I am looking for the original age of empires and it's expansion for mac and found it at amazon, but was taken rather aback when I saw this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-lis [...] dition=all

What the heck???? Who the hell would pay that much money? I have tried google to no avail. Anyone know where to get this game for less that $90 new? Thanks.

Looks like you need to play AOE 2 or 3, much cheaper for MAC!

I love the original age of empires, and would much rather have it for mac...Does anyone know where to get a not-so-expensive copy?

Doesn't have it on ebay.

Looks like it has gone collector's then.

Good luck. I ran into similar problems when I decided I wanted to play the original Shadow Hearts. I thought surely a game as old as it was would be cheap, but I had to pay right around MSRP for a used copy that was missing it's manual.

Then there was the book Sir MacHinery, a great children's book that my family loved when I was a kid. I wanted to get it for my mom so she could read it to my nephew, but the cheapest copy I could find was like $50 for a decommissioned library copy.

Once the demand outstrips the supply for something it quickly skyrockets in price and either you have to hope for a re-release or you need to snap it up quick before it gets even more expensive.

Could have been a limited production run for whatever reason.

Descent: Freespace 2; popular game with limited production run because the company went bankrupt.

Same thing with Microprose's Star Trek: Birth of the Federation right when Microprose went out of business.

Yeah, I just tried to find some of that too: the original Age of Empires 1 with the Rise of Rome expansion, for the mac.

It's the first game I ever played multiplayer, but that was back on windows. It's mostly just nostalgia I guess. The gold disk is still here, but a windows version. I guess I'll have to go bootcamp.
