I've gone through both my paper manual and the CD manual and can't
find and answer to this question.

In Settings|Network|Roam Option what is Automatic A, Automatic B?

Information for Roam Option says "Restricts the phone from making a
call when the 'R' Roaming indicator is active".

Well, that would explain what No Roaming means, but what is Automatic
A and Automatic B?

My phone was set on Automatic B. I've gotten a few calls that say
'Restricted Call'. Is this related?

Originally, back in the days of analog-only you had the A-side carrier
and the B-side carrier. B stood for "Bell" and was usually the carrier
owned by a local landline provider. GTE Mobilnet, for example, where I grew
up (Cleveland, Ohio). A, I believe, was "Alternate". AirTouch/CellularONE
was the A-side carrier in Cleveland.

Really, there's very little use for this option any more as you always have
a Preferred Roaming List (PRL) in your phone and it will dictate which
networks are used, so you don't normally have to choose A-side or B-side.

No, that means the caller is blocking their caller ID. "Unavailable" means
no caller ID data was passed to VZW.

Thanks for the info Steve. That was a good explanation but I'm pretty
dense and still confused. So, if I don't have to choose A-side or B-side,
I should have it set to No Roaming? Or it doesn't matter where it is set?

Thanks!

What I'm saying is that the PRL automatically chooses the system the carrier
wants you to use, which is generally one of their own, or a network owned and
operated by a roaming partner (it's all about money - Verizon, in particular,
has negotiated roaming agreements with Alltel and US Cellular that are
cheaper than they could get with other carriers, so they will want you to
roam on those companies' networks whenever possible, and the PRL is there to
force the phone to use the networks preferred by the carrier. So Automatic-A
and Automatic-B mean nothing - they only control the phone's network choice
when there is no PRL.

No Roaming means the phone won't connect to the cellular network anywhere
outside your home area. If you don't want to incur roaming charges, turn this
option on.

Hope this helps. :>

Won't that also prevent the phone from locking onto one of VZW's
partners on the AC plans? Seems I had problems like that when I had
my 3035 set to "home only".

Yes, it probably will.
