AGP socket help!!

I am trying to put a new Graphic card in an old PII computer.
I found that the AGP socket is divided into two segments on the motherboard, but the connector on the new card is divided into three segments. I can fit the card into the socket.
Shall I install it or is there a compability problem that can cause the card to be damaged???
