You can't change your laptop's graphics card. There are very very very few laptops that can do this, are expensive ($3,000 was the cheapest if I remember correctly) and those laptops are very old.

Also you can't buy an HD 4850 mobility as those are sold to manufacturers only.

first of all yes you can change the laptops graphics card.
2nd you can tell usually if you have a dedicated video card.
3rd (3000) you must be on some sort of drug because that is overpriced, i just bought a 9600m gt for $100. ebay sells it range from 100-300. and i know 4850 are hard to find but they get sold on ebay every now and then for about 600-800 for 2 of them.
thanks for the reply but i appreciate if you do more research before making no sense with the $3000.

1. Yes you can provided your manufacturer hasnt soldered the MXM card to the chipset. Good luck with passing that inspection first.
2. Yes you can but dedicated or integrated, most of the times they were soldered to the motherboard. (The newer gaming laptops in 2009 appear to not be soldered but don't take my word for it)
3. $3,000~ was roughly the price of the first laptops carrying MXM, pci-e slot design. The 9600m GT is quite frankly pathetic. The HD 4850 mobility is a decent card but barely manages to be on par with the 9800m GTX.

If I am correct, provided you can find someone who sells it, the HD 4850 will rake in around $400 each pre-owned of course. Im sorry I misunderstood you, but your post was rather badly made, I figured you wanted to buy one new from a retailer or etailer in which case would be near impossible to find.

Make sure your laptop is in this list. If it is not, kiss the upgrade goodbye. Or at least a MXM compatible motherboard.

If it is in the list, now open the laptop/make sure the current GPU inside hasn't being soldered down as MOST manufacturers have done for some if not most of their models.

4850 can fit in a gx620 with a different heatsink and taking the backplate from the old video card onto the 4850 and it will work.

If your 100% of comparability then your going to have a tough time finding an HD 4850 mobility. I am afraid I have scoured the net for one but the only one I found was from a few months ago and it sold for $450 on some forums.

9800m will not work with the laptop too much watt the max video card will work is the 4850 the next on my list would be 3870 even though its less than the 4850 it still better than the 9600m gt.
