Hey folks, Omnibus here. I am in need of a bit of assistance, if any kind soul would be willing to help. Skip to the ending paragraph for the short version.

I'm looking to start making No-CD cracks or drive emulators for games that I play, specifically at the moment The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The actual reason why I want to do it for Oblivion is because the disk is damage (it's physically cracked from being mounted and dismounted in the drive so many times). Don't worry, I own the game... I can even supply proof if you need it to be proven.

I am aware that there are other No-CD cracks available for Oblivion, I've looked. But, they don't function properly. I am sure that THG probably frowns on things like this, but I assure you with one hundred percent honesty that I own every single game that I will dare to crack or emulate.

Short: I need to learn to make No-CD cracks or emulators for games that I LEGALLY own, because their discs are physically cracked (specifically Oblivion), as in nearly severed, from being mounted and dismounted so many times. I can supply proof of my ownership if required, within minutes even.

Thank you so much for your time, I really hope someone will be kind enough to help. Enough thanks can't possibly be given!

You'd have to learn to code and how to read code, "cracks" usually involve re-writing some part of the executable so that it doesn't check for the disc.

Thank you very much for your time, and in a quick response.

I have no problems taking the time to learn to code. I am by no stretch of the imagination an uneducated PC user. I also have a fondness and admiration for quality in craftsmanship, which is one reason why the broken disc bugs me in the first place... which is also why I will be switching to Unix based systems one of these days, soon.

The disc doesn't have SecuROM or anything like that, only a DVD-Check.

If someone would like to help me make a crack, or dare I ask, teach me how, then I would be overwhelmingly grateful. I would love to supply the gaming community at large with quality work, as well as come up with my own solutions.

Another solution is that I make an emulation of the executable, like with a virtual drive or something, but I would rather not unless I have to, because I'd like to learn how to do things like this of course.

Thanks again, and in advance!

Yea, you'd have to seek out different help for that - I don't think they like people distributing code-hacking information on this forum.

I haven't cracked a game since quake2, so I really don't know where to suggest you should seek information.

Alright, I'll make it a second thought and ask elsewhere, I don't want to incriminate anyone on this site, or myself.

So, about virtual drives. How could I mount my installation of Oblivion to a virtual drive, so I don't need the disc? I'll probably need some open source virtual drive software, so I'll go grab one I can find now, in case someone answers (and who knows, perhaps when I run the program it will be self explanatory).

Thanks again!

For free virtual drive Daemon Tools is very good. I dont use any virtual drives at the minute as i have two dvd drives but form what i can remember Daemon has some Lite version (possibly free) and when i used it there were emulation options for SecuROM and Safedisk and a few others i think.

Not sure how much help that will be to you, i only used it to copy disks before i got my second drive.

I would avoid any sort of crack or hack. Or at least avoid discussing it here - not that I care but the mods will eventually come down on this thread. I use Virtual Drive Pro by Farstone. If you want a little cheaper version Game Drive is basically the same what supposedly only works with games. Unfortunatly it doesn't work with some of the more heavy handed DRM out there, but it's great for backing up old games and Oblivion does work with it.

I think i have your solution.

It is called Daemon Tools. You make a Image of you game in the HDD (Alchool, Nero, CloneCd and others do it well), and then you just load Daemon tools.

it creates a Virtual DVD/CD and offers some "protections" like Securom and others. Check it. Its like i have it in my place. I just use the originals one time. To pass it on to the Disc.

Or do you think we all going to bring or make copies of Starcraft, when we make our 4vs4 estravaganza at my old place ? No way !! Hope i helped.

I own the game.

Anyway, so, you're saying that I could make a virtual drive off of the installation on my hard drive? I thought I had to use the disc and make an image (the disc isn't functional any more).

You do but the license is still yours. The disc might be damaged, but the license (ownership) is still yours. I'm sure you will find a image or another person and use your license or serial number.

There are several ways to make a Tortilla, and its doesn't need to necessarily have eggs.

Alright I see what you're saying. I'll see if I can find an image with just the disc checks on it.

Thanks again!
