My girlfriend has a HP computer (Intel Celeron) with on-board shared video.
I have a PCI video card which I can install, but seem to be unable to turn
off the onboard video. Bios goes not give me that option. Installing a new
PCI video card seems to disable both the built in and the PCI card. HELP
PLEASE.
thanks in advance

This thing has an Asus motherboard, but I have not been able to find the
CMOS reset switch so I would be nervous about upgrading the bios. Have
successfully upgraded to memory with a 128mb stick.
thanks

You disable the on-board video in Device Manager, not in the bios.
Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Display Adapter,
right-click it, Properties, down at the bottom. Then turn off the computer,
insttall the new card in a PCI slot, hook up the monitor to it, open in Safe
Mode, installl the card software and drivers, reboot.

Tried that. I am getting beeps (one long, two short) after rebooting.
Neither of the video cards (built in or the one I added) works at that point
so I can't see anything. Using Windows ME.

if the bios do not give you the option to disable it. Disable it through device manager (assuming you are using Microcrap). Then re-install the drivers for the new video card.
