HP has rolled out the industry's first blade workstation which stores the computer safely away in the datacenter closet. The ProLiant Blade Workstation Solution is stacked vertically in blade chassis cabinets and several dozen can be placed in a standard 19" wide server rack. Read more
The first product based on IBM/Toshiba/Sony's Cell processor has shipped, reports Mercury Computer Systems. Mercury's Cell Technology Evaluation System (CTES) is a 470-pound behemoth with one or two dual-Cell blades running Linux. It targets defense, medical, and industrial inspection markets. Read more
Dell has updated its blade server portfolio and claims that its latest M-series eclipses its competition in power consumption and power efficiency. Read more
Intel announced the third variant of its Yonah processor core. Next to Core Duo and Core Solo, the company now offers the blade server CPU Xeon LV, formerly code-named Sossaman. The chip is Intel's first low-voltage dual-core processor and promises at least twice the energy efficiency of preceding single-core Xeon processors. Read more
