i formated my computer because it had a virus but to install another version it didnot work so now i want to install windows xp again but part of my product key is gone

You should probably call the system manufacturer for guidance. It is not wise to publish data like the install key or serial number in a public forum. You should buy another XP install CD, maybe an OEM version - that is the cheapest full install available at retail.
