Preinstalled, no need to install it. Be sure to install all the Microsoft updates. Control Panel will have the link to do so.

Doesn't Win7 come with .Net 3.5 preinstalled? @Frank, just download the 1.1 installer. It should be somewhere on Microsoft's website.
Edit: .Net 1.1 won't install on my 64bit windows 7, but a program I made with 1.1 seems to work fine with just .Net 3.5 installed.

Well, if .net framework is preinstalled, that would cover 1.1. Apparently OP is confused. No need to install version 1.1. My Windows 7 application run just fine and I did not install .net 1.1. M$ updates would take care of ,net automatically. I doubt there are any stand alone downloads for Windows 7 .net at this time. Maybe later.

I made an update to my post above, you're pretty much right. Unless he needs to program with 1.1 like I have to. Sigh, I'll just have to use XP in VirtualBox again.

Sure, remember whan an ATI graphics card would not load ATI driver/CCC without .net 2.0 being installed first? No longer an issue with Windows 7, the needed OS software is already there preinstalled.
