Recently my 2003 PC that I had been using to play games with my mates (TF2, L4D, LoL etc) died. I'm looking for a decent Gaming PC for around 500/600 Quid that can run these games smoothly, on mid/high settings. Due to the fact that I am a complete newb selecting parts for PCs, I am hoping that some of you kind folk could give me a hand? I really don't want to build it (Nowhere near as confident
) so what I thought was I could select some parts from www.pcspecialist.co.uk and have them make it for me.
Bearing in mind that I really don't want to play Battlefield 3/Crysis on Ultra, just the odd PC game like Team Fortress 2 or League of Legends I was hoping to get a base unit that can run these quite well for nearer to £500.I had thought about an i5 processor (I hear their the mid range gaming CPU to buy) with 8 Gb of Ram but like I said, I have no idea of the Motherboard or Power Supply Wattage etc.
What I am basically asking is for someone to show me the ropes about all these different parts and to possibly suggest what I should buy (and the best place to buy from)
Thanks so much for all the help

Cheers for the quick reply mate!
Thanks for the motherboard advice but what would you class as a strong GPU? I have seen an nVidia 630 GeForce but I'm not sure if that will run as well as I hope.
Like you say, you can get it on ebay but that would mean you would have to built it up yourself right? I would much rather select the parts from pcspecialist as they can assemble it for me so I know its all done correctly and in general its just easier (which I suppose is why it costs a bit more).
Do you think an i5 will run smoothly and on what sort of setting?

check their AMD gaming systems, some are very nicely picked & put together, the one i linked is maybe over the top for your games, but you may want to play other games in the future.

I THINK THAT vibox Will be the best choice and an AMD a8 5600k with crossfired Radeon 6670 will just work like a dream even with bf3 on ultra so i would recommend going AMD as this is the Specs that i have right now and play fc3 and bf3 and it just works fine with 30-40 fps. Just go on vibiox and build own pc and choosen those specs i choose no operating system as i dont need one but idk with you

If he's willing to spend £600 There's no need to go with a APU & Crossfire... £600 imho is enough to build a very good gaming rig now adays.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS... + a 7850 / Win7 comes to about £604
Yes you can get a better system for similar price if you built yourself. but eh
If you really dont intend on heavy gaming, and still carry on LOL etc you can bring that price down by putting a 7770 in there which is still capable of playing all new games at lower details etc.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS... would be a great choice only for your games you play but may struggle in games like BF3 Multiplayer, and other games that utilizes a quad core properly.

For running smoothly and looking nice i would recommend amd a6 with a a radeon GRaphics card for example 6670 overall that would be enough for these games because if my 5yr old pc could play this these specs would be great and i have a AMD A10 my self crossfired with 6670 and works great on every game and its really cheap!

Total war I'm not to sure. I know its a stupidly CPU intensive game. and will probably use all cores possible. so a Dual core may/may not struggle, cant seem to find any shogun 2 Benchmarks done with an I3 http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2012/05/01/intel-...
i do know an I3 coupled with a 7850 is a very nice machine, tho with more and more games comin' out utilizing 4 cores i would look into an I5 build or AMD BUlldozer/ Piledriver, but an I5 system will probably take you over your budget unless you built it all yourself or already have a Windows 7 Retail.
What is your monitors resolution also?

Well its all good, but not sure what PSU they will put in that. & the GT630 is not the greatest infact its a horrible gamin GPU if you want somewhat performance 28fpsish on BF is not pretty even with low settings & may struggle in many games.

Well i've already got a decent dvd drive so its £592
Edit:
I've had a look at that GPU link you posted, and read the 7770 article specifically. Cant understand what most of it says but if you think its a good choice i'll go with you mate
Just glad to get one better than my old GeForce Fx 5600 which, may I add, couldn't run DX 9 :L

a 550w would be enough as i have that but 600w takes alot more electircity when using moitor and speakers but it depends if you want to save money, if you think im nuts saying 550w would be enough and think that 600 is the same thing you are wrong the 550w and 600w is a very big diffrence.ALso good luck when you buy a pc make a thread giving us a review about the system and what Fps you get on games and send me a private message

I'm probably gonna stick with the same set up until some massive failure happens so the 450 would be alright. Besides it takes price down around 50 quid which is a bonus. And I suppose 450s are cheaper to buy (?) so if it does blow I can get a new one for less
Edit:
Mind you, if 600 is a necessary thing then I don't mind getting it, i'm just wondering if its overkill?
Edit 2:
I will mate, cheers for all the help!!!

yes a 450W will be fine then. if you don't intend on upgradeing your GPU anytime soon, tho with a 7770 you may need to quicker than if you say bought a 7800+/660+series card which will probably last year or so extra. depending what FPS you can live with
well if your PSU blows within 3 years you should get a free fix from pcspecialist. so no problem there.
Good luck with the computer!
You'll have to do a bit of reading about building computers btw, it's really straight forward and can save you some nice cash
worst part for me building a system is getting all the front case headers into the correct place
always need the manual for that. everything else can pretty much only go in one place

Is eBay completely out of the question for you?
You can pick up a GTX 580 in brilliant nick for about £150- I've seen some go for as low as £120. Spotted an i7 3820 go for £166 yesterday. Then just couple all that with a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3, 8GB of Corsair RAM and you're ready to go!
Would work out as follows:
Intel Core i7 3820 (Will easily OC to 4.5+= £166
Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140= £30
Gigabye X79-UD3= £115
Nvidia GTX 580= £150
1TB Seagate Barracuda= £47
8GB 1600mhz Corsair Vengeance= £26 (ebay)
Zalman Z11 Case= £44
Inwin GreenMe 650W= £50
Total: £628 if I'm not mistaken. Barely over budget. If you stick with a stock cooler, it'll even come in £2 under budget.
Gives you a brilliant base for the future and is guaranteed to outperform any of the suggestions thus far- perhaps even a couple of times over.
Might be an option worth exploring.
