Background Info
I'm going to be buying my very first computer monitor sometime in the next two weeks, and I'd like to hear your suggestions because, frankly, I don't know the first thing about computers or monitors and this is kind of a big deal. So my budget is $200-250. Obviously, I'd like to keep under budget, but if fifty bucks is going to greatly enhance my experience, fine, that's cool too. This monitor has to last me 3-4 years, not life. I plan on upgrading in the future. I just need something to get by on while I attend college for Animation. I'm most concerned with response time and colour and image quality.
Sure, bigger is better, but I'd be comfortable with a 23". I'm used to 1920x1080 by now. I don't think my budget will cover anything larger than 23.6" including all of my specifications.
I would prefer it if the colour weren't over-saturated or anything but I'm not going to nit-pick because I don't have very many options.
I am well aware that IPS is better than TN, but aren't most of Asus' $200-250 2ms monitors TN? I haven't been able to find a nice IPS model at my price point with a response time lower than 5. Do you think I could play Mass Effect 3 on high or better settings with a 5ms response time? It's my first time not only buying a monitor but also PC gaming. Blah.
I do NOT have a PC built yet. I'm purchasing the monitor ahead of time.... I'm actually "building" my PC this summer, before I move into my dorm. I'm going to get a sweet graphics card so it should be able to handle a powerful monitor.
NOTE: I don't know if it matters, but I am NOT going to be playing any fast-paced first person shooters like Battlefield, COD, blah, blah, blah. I prefer to play role playing games like Mass Effect 3 (almost exclusively online multiplayer) and Skyrim. I may or may not try MMOs. I don't know if 2ms response time is necessary....
