Yea, I put -smp in both of those areas. I didn't put any # after -smp in the "additional client parameters" so it should be running on any of the cores.
I've also tried to reinstall it once, maybe I'll try it again after this WU is done, since it's already halfway done.

Hmm... very strange. Well, if the reinstall doesn't solve the problem, i would recommend going to the Folding@homes forums http://foldingforum.org/index.php

There they maybe able to help better than i can.

I reinstalled it and this time I got an a3 core, my processor is pegged at 100% now ;)  .

Thanks for the help!

No problem. Glad it was resolved. :)

What was the deal with changing the Fold at Home section or thread?
June 24, 2010 1:12:23 PM

@shanemarines: It's for organize the forum, some sections had many sticky threads, so, a consolidation is much better for the users and the forum.

Oooo..... this looks interesting.

http://folding.typepad.com/news/2010/06/update-on-the-v...

Primarily 2 things that i see with the next client (v7),

Being able to fold on a gpu and cpu under 1 client instead of multiple clients and (a little bit later on after the client released) if i read correctly, able to mange multiple computers under 1 client.

Seams F@H going to be turned on it's head. Most likely for the better. :)

If I'm hearing this right I consider this a lot better! :o

that would be nice especially if you could control all of them from on client, because i'm running my main desktop when i'm not gaming an older office desktop from my dad's place and my bros ps3 when he's not using it

Well, im not sure if you can control a ps3 with that client but i do also like the sounds of controlling multiple computers in my home network at once. :D

Although i am curious on what this GUI client is going to look and act like as i really cant see the current gui clients that we see with uniprocessor and gpu client working to well for multi clients.
June 29, 2010 5:27:18 AM

Hey guys, I'm just wondering what's wrong - my GPU client has been attempting to get a work packet for quite a while, around 12 hours or so. What should I do? Or is this temporary and maybe the server dishing out these work packets has temporarily crashed?

Hmm... can you show the sever IP address that your computer trying to connect?

first place to look at is this page, to see what severs are down. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/serverstat.html

Second thing i would mention is after seeing this thread on folding forums, http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=15077
Try turning off the "-advmethods" flag.

What i can guess it maybe there a sever the receiving WU's but isn't giving out any. That could be due to there so many WU's being turned in at this time that it cant send out or that the sever crashed.

It could also just be the a WU shortage on the gpu side.
June 29, 2010 8:08:14 PM

Well further development, it looks as though there a shortage in ATI gpu WU's. The mod on the folding forums has notice this as well and has reported it to the people at PG. there looking into it ATM.
June 29, 2010 9:19:28 PM

Just set up the smp on my Phenom II 940. So I'm not running F@H on the Phenom II 940, Phenom 9850, and Athlon II 630. Only catch is it's not 4C on each machine 24/7.
June 30, 2010 6:55:48 AM

It seems like it's all fixed now, my HD 4770 is back in action. :)
June 30, 2010 2:51:12 PM

Yeah i've notice internet trouble for the past few days as well. Although i think it a relay station somewhere thats causing problems (at least for me) as i get random web sites that can come up and others wont.

Anyways, even though my internet fine for now.... i wont be folding till late this week to early next week. In a middle of a move right now so kinda hard to fold when you wont have internet for a few days. (finally im moving as thought that i was going to move a month ago :heink:  )

Well break time up and back to packing.

July 4, 2010 1:28:37 AM

hopefully i will actually fold instead of doing it for 1/2 hr and then not doing it anymore! :)

would my new server fold reasonably well?
-Dual-CPU Intel Pentium III 1GHz
-2GB PC133 RAM (4x512mb)
-10k rpm scsi 36 or 38gb i forget
-200w fsp psu
-xp pro with microsoft security essentials...
-1u case
-and a bunch of retarded noisy tiny little fans :)

1. is it worth using to fold?
2. is it ok to use maybe like 3rs/day and still complete stuff in time?
3. would i be able to use both CPUs?
July 4, 2010 6:54:18 AM

hey every cpu counts especially since our teams productions is down =/ but it would probably have to be 24hrs a day, and on the normal cpu client otherwise there no way it would finish in time

i think you'd be able to use both cpus just like you can run 2 of the basic clients for dual cores and above
July 4, 2010 3:11:12 PM

unfortunately, my mom wont let me have it on when im not home or at night. so that leaves a few hours a day. unless i can make it silent :)  but i dont think thats possible...so a few hours wont do?
July 4, 2010 5:24:40 PM

i don't think it'll be able to meet the deadlines, you could try it out anyways with one unit, and see if you can get it, or come close at least
July 4, 2010 5:26:31 PM

crap! what about my core2duo computer, the one in my signature? would that work?
July 4, 2010 5:26:57 PM

or a dell p4 2.66ghz ?
July 4, 2010 5:36:24 PM

hahahahahahaha! i is folding now!!! muahahahahahahahahhahaaaaaa!
with the computa in my sig line :p
July 4, 2010 6:34:56 PM

The computer in your sig will easily be above to meet the deadline you might be able to us your gpu but I forget if the oldest nvidia you can have is an 8xxx or a 6xxx
July 5, 2010 12:37:27 AM

well, im back. although wont be able to fold for just a little bit longer. All the stuff hasn't arrived at the new house just yet. Although i can still help answer questions.

Yes shovenoses, the computer in you're sig can fold. I would hope it make dead lines or else you have issues as the pentium dual core laptop i have can complete smp2 WU's.

JonnyboyC: well he cant fold with it. You need a card that has cuda and the 7xxx and before doesn't have it. Now if he gets a cheap GT 2xx or HD 5xxx card to run along side (if he can) or replace the current card, he could fold with a gpu.

Now as for FAH new, You guys the have system with a total of 8 cpu(s) cores (or a core i7 with HT on), unless im miss reading this, you maybe able to run big adv WU's :D

http://en.fah-addict.net/news/news-0-258+bigadv-suspend...

Once the unpacking is done, i'll be back to F@H.
July 5, 2010 4:44:08 AM

honestly, im not coming back to folding until i can actually utilize my 4870's to the fullest (as i need my cpu for computation of my programs when testing)

is there some kinda of point advantage to this big adv WU
July 7, 2010 12:54:31 PM

I've been gone to long by the way that's about a week for me maybe. lol!

Does anyone know if were doing alright or if our folding is down as far as the GPU folding is concerned?

Hm thats odd, i though i responded to you're comment. Guess not.

Anyways yes there is a point advantage. It should be able to give you some more ppd than smp2.

This might help. ;)
July 7, 2010 1:43:33 PM

anyways, im back to folding.

Although i can see were way down.... if i could only use my dads core i7 laptop for folding.
July 7, 2010 4:28:03 PM

I've noticed too last couple day we've been done like 40,000 ppd,

i'm actually going to be buying a gtx 480 in like a week an a half, pretty much going blow all the money i've made at my part time job this summer, but since i can't find someone to sell my 275 too, probably just going fold with both :sol:

Well, i hope in the future computer build i have planed, it will have gtx 470 in it. Although cant guarantee that the build we be built anytime soon....

Well hope you can run the gtx 480 and 275 together. Many of the guys on folding forums have had issues running both. I would recommend going there and reading up on how to get both running.

Good luck on the gtx 480 :hello:
July 7, 2010 5:45:09 PM

so also just read that article about bigadv WU, and they are crazy big, at a 3.8 ghz i7 i barely meet the minimual requirements lol, there are times posted at up to 48 hours straight to get them done
July 7, 2010 6:10:53 PM

Well, the heat is hurting my folding, and it looks like it is going to hurt more. :(  The heat generated by the computers has really run up my AC bill. :fou:  I turned off all the single core folding machines over a month ago. I've been turning off the GPU folders during the day for the last week or so. Looks like I'm going to soon turn off the GPU folders for the remainder of the summer. :pfff:  Then I'll have to start turning off the SMP folders.

I guess I'll be back up full speed this fall when It cools down some. :sol:

Understandable. F@H always seams to drop in donors when summer hits. Most likely same reasons you do. :pt1cable:

If i was still in ohio i was looking at doing the same thing. Although with moved into military housing, Electric and along with a bunch of other stuff stays 1 price every month. :)

Now all i have to say though, South Carolina is very hot and humid......

South Carolina??? Yah, I should say it is a bit hotter there than here, though not as much as I would like. :)
I'm just outside Louisville Ky. It turned into August here in June. I have no idea what August will be like. The AC is running almost full time now. :sol:

Yep south Carolina. My dad got a job with the department of the Marines at Parris Island. Wouldn't of been my first choice of moving to but hey you got to go were the jobs go.

As for temps, Yeah your going to be pretty darn close to the temps we have down here.

Until tomorrow that is. :ouch:  100F...... This cold weather person is staying inside.

BTW, nice city you got there! :D  Passed though it when i was still in boy scouts in ohio to go caving near the wyandotte caves.

What you mean by that :D  ? Folding, location, or... the outside heat

Well, i got another processor working on folding. This one is the gpu in my dad laptop (geforce 310M which is the first gpu folding i've done). It wont be a 24/7 folder but it will fold when my main folder (the Pentium 1.86Ghz dual core laptop) is not going to turn in the WU for the day (as it take a day and 6-10 hours for smp WU to get done.)

May not be a powerful gpu but it still gets the job done and folds quicker than my primary folder.

thats great to hear and welcome to the team!!!

but Crossfire is not supported so must likely you just running off the one gpu, i believe you can unlink the cards on CCC, and simply run 2 clients on each gpu

hey does anyone, have any info on how the gtx 460 is going to performance in pdds,

i personally went a a radically change in the card i was going to gett, was thinking 480, then go way big with 470's in sli, then boom the 460 came out, and immediately changed my mind, going to pop 2 of those in save some cash, overclock the freaking hell out of them, and get better performance then a 480

No hard numbers yet.

Although from what other people and I see out of the specs and game performance out of the gpu, Were guessing it's about the same, if not more, performance as the GTX 465 (which is around the 10K ppd mark). Yeah it has just a little less cuda cores than gtx 465 but the graphic and processor clock is a little higher.

Now when you factor overclocking this gpu, some review site has set graphic clock as high as 900mhz (from 675MHz) which could mean it could do 11-13K ppd. Which puts it right in the GTX 470 stock performance range.

no hard numbers but thats mine and other people guess on the numbers. If i find any hard numbers, i'll let you know.
