i dont care about the temps, as im ging to improve the cooling. could i use a 20gb laptop hard drive in a usb enclosure to boot off xp home? and then run the client like so? would the 1ghz cpu be fast enough for f@h? and yes id leave it on all day possibly all night! would that kill the laptop hard drive being on 24/7 if its already a cery old 4200rpm model? thanks. i am thinking this is sounding like a better and better idea OMG!Your HD is not the problem it's your CPU that would be cooked, and the picture is of the Light Bike from Tron II

Nevermind. It's a cely M 360 on the pentium M micro-arch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_M
So it is possible that you cpu will perform better than my cpu.

what does the arch. matter? i dont understand!?Oh yeah the arch does matter. It the reason why back in the Althon xp vs pentium 4 days, the athlon would always wins clock for clock.
It's also the same reason why in single threaded apps, the core i7 920 on par with the fastest phenom II x4. all due to the arch.

i think this is what you need saaiello.
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
Just be sure to read the guides on how to setup the high performance client for the cpu.

Can someone tell me how to use more then 1 core for folding because I noticed that that it will only use 1 core but I heard there is a way to use all my cores I am folding on a Q8200 Quad at 3.16ghz and yes it has plenty of cooling. What warmon6 just said. You may want to take a look at the "- smp" flag part on that page if you have not apply that yet.

I just wanted to say Great Job to everyone. The THGC folding team is showing signs of life again. Our 24 hr point ave. is up nearly 20k and new members appear to be on the rise. Thanks to everyone who contributes.
THG has been a great source of knowledge to me over the years. Their news and reviews continue to be on point. I know that there are a lot of great reasons to fold, but keeping my favorite site competitive in the top 100 motivates me.
Foldaholism is not fatal. It cures cancer.
Keep up the great work!

Although the electricity bill for using Quad Sli'd GTX480's could well cause a coronary.Ya I had to stop for almost 2 years (stayed in the top 100 amazingly) as my electric bill was killing me. I was running a Pentium D machine with 3 clients- 1 for each core and 1 for the gpu. My bill dropped dramatically.
Now I fold often but not 24/7 and sometimes I even shut the machine down for a day or 2.
BTW- I love the quote" Foldaholism is not fatal. It cures cancer. "
Regards,
Om
PS- I think although my work units are increasing my ranking is dropping I imagine bc I have an old laptop now running FAH 24/7 and only run the gpu/cpu desktop a few days a week. Does that sound right? I don't really care though I do remember being very happy at one point when I reached 52 I think.

I'm not sure how the points for WU's are allocated but it seems that the GPU clients score higher because despite leaving the CPU one running all the time my score really shoots up when the GPU client has been running for only a few hours, it's a shame I can't leave that one on all the time but it messes up the TV as it only a 9500GT and 32 cores are just not enough to do two things at once.

I really like how nice the people are here and how real all of your are. I know it will be longer then 12 weeks and I'll be lucky if I get out of there in 14, but I will try my hardest! For the next question I will be in San Diego, CA and I guess they say thats where the men join, but all I know is I'm scared and excited as hell!

Omg i managed tokill one of my computers. It was a small form factor p4 2.2ghz hp compaq that i left on over night at work running f@h. Ive besn doing this for a few days now but i guess it is no more. I got there in the mornijg, and saw that the screen was scrambled. It must have overheated seeing that the psu fan ( theonlynexhaust fan in thebsystem got stuck. Lol i guess this needs an equation: f@h + shitty pc = fail

no the fan was working well when i left-i checked. i think the whole thing just overheated, becsause of all the hot air left in it when i touched the case in the morning it was very warm, versus it being nearky room temp usually. im not gonna bother replacing any parts
, i just took it, and threw into the crap bin...512mb ram, 20gb hdd, 2.2ghz p4...why would i want to keep it. anyway, i wouldnt be able to trust the parts anymore because they proble all gotr way too hot!
