this do anything for ya Bean?
Blah 4 computers in one room and it's getting too hot...
Gotta hide the 2 pent 4's somewhere else in the house.
it stay about 76 degrees in our computer room which is about 20x25ft with 4 computers. We have the vents blocked off from the heating unit so all the heat is the pc's. This summer will be nightmarish if i don't figure out another arrangement.

Yeah I like it but now your advertising the EVGA Forum.
I don't have those kind of problems, its been about 8C here today, just open the window and the room chills.
Sounds like you need some deskfans.
My only issue at present is the vibrations through the floor at night, need some case soundproofing and rubber feet.

Well adverting them wasn't my intention, I only picked it because i have a EVGA video card. it's about 40F here so about 4C ??
Anyway I think ti's the Stealthmodx PSU from OCZ. there known for getting hot (and melting lol). It prob needs to go in a week or two for a new one.
So can i run another copy of the client and just have my GTX275 run it when i'm not at home gaming? im away for work about 10 hours 5 days of the week if i could run one for my processor and 1 for my GPU that would be cool.
Only reason i'm running the basic client on the quad is i need stability while i'm taking online classes.

Reply to c911darkwolf
Never thought of that.
Yeah the StealthX isn't as good as the ModX but still ok.
The GTX275 would get some nice points, just set up the gpu client with passkey and allow large wu's.
RIGHT TEAM, anyone who would like their sig to be full size can they just nip over to this thread and show a bit of support. I'm not asking for a lot its only 11 pixels larger than the specified limit but makes it look much nicer.

Yeah, but first I need to complete 10 SMP WU's. I've only done 1 so far.
Then I'll reaaaaally get the PPD flowing in.@lilcinw That was so amusing.
460's are nice cards, and I'm not sure they actually get so much less PPD than 570's. . . . They'll probably be going down in price soonish too, if they haven't already.
Edit: Actually, based on Beano's HFM link, 460's and 570's fold exactly the same. Maybe because of the WU's they get?
Has to be as the GTX 570 should be slightly faster than the GTX 480. It has the same cuda core count but it's a little higher in Mhz.
As for all this PPD. Man, i remember the days when 1K to 1.5K PPD was way more than enough to be on the top 20 producers.....
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/page-268010_28_300.ht... (first time i got to be in the top 20)
Oh well...... i'll just fold what i can.
(now if i could only overclock this laptop as it can handle the extra heat

............)Yeah, and my PPD stays more or less the same whether my cards are OC'd or not; It never goes past 15k. Edit: Maybe that's not fair to the 570's, they hit 15.9k sometimes. No 16k yet though, and mostly it's 10-14k.
I went and supported the request for larger sigs, I hope our plea is heard.
Also @ Beano, thanks for the sig, it looks totally badass. I forgot to thank you earlier.

@Lil@Yakri, thanks for the support, any more from anyone else would be appriciated.
@Shovenose, we had this before with you, you can only have a sig with your Toms stats because your team isn't in the top 6000, I can do you a nice sig but it won't change stats unless you start folding for us again.
@Yakri, the 570 should produce quite a bit more when OC'd, just the core and shader, not mem. Don'y forget my 460's are clocked @850mhz, up from 700mhz default, at default speeds they produce about 9k.
Glad you like it, its a pretty straight forward one but sometimes simple is effective, good thing is when you get board of it or change your Avatar you can switch it around so it blends in.

Hey, I just remembered, no-one thanked me for the birthday card!
Hmm, my 570's are OC'd currently (850 clock), and seem to have actually leveled out at 15k PPD (with occasional dips a little under/over), as long as I don't play games/turn my PC off, etc.
In the HFM screen shot, you're actually getting like 25 more PPD than my 570, at 15153/PPD. I might be able to push my overclock to 900, but I'm a little dubious about doing so, as I'll have to go right up to the factory voltage limit.
If you actually get 15k PPD most of the time(or at least equally as often as my 570 does), I think that would make the 460's MUCH better bang for your buck cards, as you could probably get 1-2k more PPD out of a 570 tops.
That chart seems about accurate for my 570, but that's when overclocked at 800 or 850 that it hits that.
PS. Also, I really need to get my second card started folding. . . . Can't figure out why it doesn't work currently though.
PPS. I just read an old F@H thread while figuring out how to get 2 GPU's running, and someone said, "I can't believe the power on this thing! 800n/s a day!!" I lol'd. More importantly, it reminded me how much I love technology, it advances so goddamn fast these days! ^_^
PPPS. My second card that I just got working is pulling 17.9k PPD. . . . Shitdamn.
This makes me wonder why my supposedly identical other card isn't doing that well though.
PPPS. My apparent max PPD without SMP/bigadv bonus points is 50k. If I'm not using my PC or anything. I'm going to try to OC my CPU to 4.8GHz and get 900Mhz on the GPU clocks.

I only ever get 14-15k when I draw 912pt wu's otherwise its usually around 11k.
So effectively you are getting 3k ppd more which is about right.
I haven't upped my gpu voltage as they run nice and cool but I've read reports of 930mhz on 460's.
The instructions for dual gpu from the Stanford pages are pretty good.
Both times I did mine I had to delete the work folder and queue dat folder from both storage folders and start on new wu's before they would run properly, if you get stuck I can post some setup pics but its mainly down to getting the shortcuts set up properly as per instructions.
Your card thats showing 17k must be pulling 912pt wu's, check the credit on HFM.
With that setup running on all cylinders we could have a contender for top of the board.

It's showing the project ID as M1_Shooting, and the credit as "1348."
Also, I overclocked 'em to 900Mhz core, and I'm getting 18.7k PPD on the high one, and 15.9k on the low one. XD
Unfortunately I can't run this overclock while I'm in the room (my PC is in my bedroom), even when I'm sleeping, as the capacitor buzz is super loud at this OC, and would drive me insane.
PS. Showing up as 51k total PPD right now. XD

Alright here is the Screen shot.

I don't have a monitor attached to both, I -think- I reset the queue.dat and work folder for GPU1, but I know I did it for GPU0.
Both of them seem to be working properly right now, other than the PPD disparity.
Also, I'm down to 50K total PPD.
Probably because I'm actually using my PC right now.

Well that doesn't make much sense, wait and see what the next wu brings.
I read somewhere that each card needs to have a monitor plugged in for it to work properly.
What are you using to OC them? I use MSI Afterburner it clocks them together and monitors usage and heat really well.
Poor you, only 50k ppd.

I'm using EVGA Precision and EVGA eleet. I was using afterburner, but after the fan profile decided to stop working and lock my fan's at 40%, I decided not to use it anymore (Me no likey 90c+ temps). It's probably because you have to use the beta version to change voltage with the 570, and beta version tend to be buggy. . . .
I've read that about the monitors on a couple of forums, but I think it says on the Stanford F@H site that they fixed that issue fairly recently, and now you just have to do some running around moving folders and creating specialized shortcuts, which I did.

I was gonna ask you what sort of temps you get on the cards?Just out of interest what does your cpu ppd increase to when you stop your cards?
What psu are you using also?
I get about 64-70c with the current OC (900 core clock). With 800 and 850 I get 60-65c. I do have a fairly aggressive fan profile on though, with it's goal being to keep quiet until the temp approaches 70C, and then keep cool enough to stay under 70c. Currently i'm getting 70-75% fan speed.
I'm not sure atm, I'll check it out tomorrow, going to sleep after I post this, but I'll post a screen shot later, probably OC to 4.8GHz then run just the SMP client. The highest I've seen it with one card on was 22k, but right now it's slouched down to 12k.
I'm using the corsair HX850w, which I believe you recommended to me along with two others over in the PSU section.

As for 2 identical gpu's with one making more points than another......
These thread may give some insight to what's going on.

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1574165
And there many more threads out there and no one sure why this issue is happining.
Some think it's the gpu/MB bios, some think it's the monitor connected to it, some think it's just a driver, ect.
I wouldn't worry to much right now as it is a common problem.

Well, i would say wait till you get another WU thats not "670x" as those Wu's are a pain. (every one gets less PPD with these WU's)

Does folding with your GPU affect light pc use much? I have a 6850 but rarely play GPU intensive games and it is lightly used most of the time. Not really. I've been folding with one of my OC'd GTX 570's while at the same time playing lower requirement games without lag.
Also, I'm collecting that Data on my TPF/PPD right now.
5:26 TPF with the proc folding on it's own. What do TPF and Frames mean/do/stand for/effect?

When i was testing my dad's laptop gpu many months back, it shown signs of lag when playing facebook flash games. (Nvidia geforce 310M)
Although that a low (weak) end gpu. You have the moderate to high range gpu so you probably wont see much of lagging.

I wouldn't fold and game, just shut the folding down, game, then start it up again.
The time limits for the gpu wu's are generous, plenty of time to game and fold.
For other usage apart from intensive games I don't see a problem having it running.
Yakri, T(TIME) P(PER) F(FRAME)
So as you can see having you gpu on slows your cpu by 43 secs per frame.
Doesn't seem a lot but 43 secs x 100 frames= 4300secs/60 = 71.66 mins = 1hr 12mins ish slower per wu.
SN, top 6000 would do ya.

Well i'm in top 300 on the team now, It shows me running 3 pc's now, but i'm up to 4. Takes a long time to update the number of PC's i think. (might need to double check the passkey possibly) Almost had 5, but I got a Problem with one pc. I think it's the Mobo, but i'll test more after this weekend.
I got one pc in a closet all it has is a wifi card, no keyboard/mouse/monitor ect.. i'm setting up our pent 4's like that so i can just remote over start em and let them fold 24/7.
Turned off all the computer friday night and saturday morning it seemed so quiet and about 20 degrees (f) cooler lol.

I'm going to see if I can get a bit of a folding contest going. I don't know if it will even get off the ground but we'll see
@Beano: Is it possible to have the sigs generated with a smaller background but the same size text? That would keep them clear while keeping them inside the forum size limit.

Thanks for attempting to make a contest started randomizer.
As for your question, i dont think so. I'll try messing with the url again later today see if i can get larger text with small size. Although if i remember right, all i was able to do was change the image and the overall size of the sig.
Unless beano found the lucky number to do just that.

Here's question, is Folding@home tax deductible? I mean your donating system usage to a non-profit research. Just wondering if anyone else has looked into that.
@yakri - I think there is a bigger problem with the PC. i got win xp pro on it running, but i can't really install anything else. everything else just "shutdowns unexpectedly" all i got is a clean install of xp pro sp 2 and i managed to get the folding software running on it. i'm guessing a faulty HD or Mobo

@randomizer anything for some more publicity. If you managed to get something on the tom's main page I'm sure the team's ppd would skyrocket.
@yakri I see you have turned on the afterburners. Now I never will catch you.
Sorry for space cliches I just started playing Mass Effect.
@c911darkwolf Stanford is a 501(c)(3) according to the folding@home donate page. I would ask your tax preparer about it for next year. I think it would be calculated something like this (current value of machine)*(hours donated) / (hours per year). So you are probably looking at a few hundred dollars per year deducted from your earnings. If you wanted to get crazy you could buy a killawatt and start tracking power usage and try to deduct that too. This is all starting to sound like more trouble than its worth.
edit: I dug a little deeper according to the IRS you can't deduct your time or services so there that goes.

@lilcnw - Well thats a bummer, one more thing we could of done to convince people to help.
@dadiggle - yea was a little harsh and there is no need to start a fight here, although i wonder if he does it just to put out adverts : )
I think your missing a opening quote bracket on your message there it almost looks like your saying that instead of Quoting Double D : )
As of right now I have the current list folding
3x Pent 4's
1x Dual Core
1x Quad Core
I got 1 more Pent 4 i'm putting together to add to the (pent 4 farm) that i'm building in the spare bedroom. The wife is only convinced because it's for a good cause : ) Me on the otherhand is 45% good cause 55% easily addicted to projects.
