He may come up even faster. It has been hitting over 80 degrees here off and on for 2 months now and the electric bill has been headed for the stratosphere. Now, today it is to pass 90 again like it did yesterday, and it's supposed to do again tomorrow. I've been trying to hold out till June to cut back the folding but it may have to happen earlier. I've been shutting down some in the afternoons when it is the hottest but last night it only went down to 78...
If it doesn't cool off soon I'll be dropping back to about 15,000 PPD, or perhaps a bit less, sooner than planned.
We are also having a mini heatwave in the UK, i.e. the suns out!
Check out those bigadv points.....ugh...

Im sure that we can.
Although now i got some explaining to do.
I never did mention it to the group that i was helping out the chimp challenge for a bit.

Awesome!
Is that 4P 4 x 6272? Are those OC'ed, or stock? It would be neat to see how the PPD compare between that and my new 4 x 6172, as they consume nearly the same power.
On a side note, I finally found how to get a 6903 on my 4P, so now I can do a direct PPD and GFLOPS comparison between the 4P and my i7.
Also warmon or adak, could you explain (or direct me to) the rules for the chimp challenge, it might be fun to participate in a future one (I had heard about them but never learned the details). Thanks!

Oh, they'll be glad.
It's just if i didn't comment to your post when i did, they'll be like what?
Anyways, Even though i wasn't able to give much, thanks for returning the favor. You guys are a really great team!

Well, I would try to explain it in my own words but i think the threads Adak friends have made on there forum sum everything up better than i could.

Chimp Challenge 2012This thread is where I'll detail what the rules and arrangements are for the Chimp Challenge 2012. Please check this post occasionally, as it will be updated as the contest takes shape.
Chimp Challenge Arrangements and Rules
The contest will start on the 15th of May 2012 at 12 pm PDT (GMT -7) and finish on the 25th May 2012 at 12 pm PDT (GMT - 7).
Contestants
Overclockers.com - T32monkeys
Overclockers Australia - Monkey_Boll ocks
Overclock.net - OCNChimpin
EVGA - EVGApes
CPC & bit-tech - CustomBitChimps
Hardware Canuks - Beavers_Gone_Bananas
TSC! Russia - TSCh!mp
Tech Power Up - ChimPowerUp
Points
Three categories:
Points: # of millions of points produced (e.g. 120 million = 120 points).
Growth: based on last years points.
Conversion: proportion of team points originating from the monkey, e.g. T32monkeys points divided by team points.
Points from each category will be normalised so that the lowest team gets 10 points and the highest gets 110.
Totals for each category are summed, and the winner is the team with the most chimp points.
In the event of a close race, a Stanford daily_user_summary.txt file will be the official source for points information.
Prizes
The victor gets to claim the lucky jaded monkey as the prize. Tales have been told of untold wealth and fame that comes with this. The victorious team is allowed to display in any honorary fashion the jaded monkey, the losing teams are forbidden to display it.
The losing teams are bestowed the dreaded monkey's paw, which is said to be cursed. People have been known for have very bad luck with this paw!
Team Leaders
Overclockers.com - Captain: David
Overclockers Australia - Captain: leroyxx/RE TARD/BlueRaven
Overclock.net - Captain: zodac/sweffymo
EVGA - Captain: Drougnor/Xavier Zepherious/Devdog51
CPC & bit-tech - Captain: coolamasta
Hardware Canuks - Captain: chriskwarren/3.0 Charlie
TSC! Russia - Captain: [kane]Enforce/BOSUN
Tech Power Up - Captain: BUCK NASTY
Passkeys
The username you need is T32monkeys.
The team number is, as always, 32.
The public passkey is 00fc1ca869ed43359d7ea6695cd75d28.
However, I recommend you PM myself, Adak or (who else has it?) for the private passkey. The public passkey could, in theory, be used by other teams to sink our bonuses for work unit return, so the private passkey is safer. The public passkey will get you going, however.
If there anything this post missed, i think Adak will mentioned.

Sound like it could be fun. But I'm not sure how many more points I can squeeze out of this box without burning something up.
We seem to be a rag-tag collection of folders with no directional support or support at all from Toms Hardware.
Any insight or suggestions on how to make our team grow would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Tanker is a 4 x 6272 rig. It's all stock. The O/C that Tear and friends have come up with, works only with Magny-Cours Opterons (6174, 6138, etc.). (6272's are Interlagos models)
Power runs right at 600 Watts for the total system, (case fans, HD, etc. included) while folding, but it does vary as it's folding.
If you come to the Overclocker.com forum for distributed folding teams, and then into folding@Home, you will find a sticky thread there at the top of the forum, with links to all things 4P - including the build log for Tanker and others, with pics, etc.

First and foremost, you guys need some better visibility and organization!
My first time looking through here, I couldn't even FIND the folding team, at all. I've never seen Distributed Computing, grouped under the heading of "Applications"! Applications?
You should work to get it changed to the "Community" forum area, under Distributed Computing, like:
Community
=======================
Deals
Distributed Computing
Site Feedback
etc.
And then you need to get your posts broken up into more specific threads, instead of having 90 page threads! Those will happen, and they're fine for something you always do, like welcoming new members, etc. But for all the posts with a new topic, they should be separated into distinct threads.
Folding is about power, but more than that, it has to be fun, and should have a community spirit to it, and you need some variety. Maybe for 3 months you emphasize an overtake of another team, maybe another 3 months you have a contest based on submissions for a team logo that eventually will be put on team T shirts that you sell, or baseball caps, or mugs, etc. Also, they make great swag for "recruiter of the year" type of thing.
If you post pics of good folding rigs, and your members will find a way to get them and/or upgrade their own rigs. Not all the time, not right away, but the effect is there - it's why advertising works.
You need some "heat" (posts), in the forum. You can't build a fire (membership) without it. Don't let your forum go "flat" with no posts in it. Even if you don't REALLY have anything substantive to post up, "today I cleaned out my rig's case, and ...", that's OK. Post it, post a pic of it before an after. Never let the forum just sit there with no posts in it for days on end.
Personally, I'm not much for running contests, but others are good at them. What I like are short term racing and team overtakes, and troubleshooting FAH folding problems. Different teammates will have different aptitudes -- try and use them for what they like to do.
Maybe find a few teams of about your size and production, and have a race with them? Zodac at OCN could show you how she ran this years Chimp Challenge with the stats updates, etc.
Maybe next year, ask about competing in the Chimp Challenge. You probably won't win, but that's true for every team. Main thing is to have fun, and recruit some new people to folding.

Great, glad to have you onboard (soon). I put some feedback in your thread, though I think this highlights even more why we need our own forum subsection. Threads with recommended hardware and links to guides could be a huge help to people just starting out so they don't have to peruse our 100 page thread. maybe I'll PM Joe or start a thread in the Suggestions/Feedback section.

And great advice for the forum as well. We really need our own forum section. Has someone already asked the admins or Joe about that?Well, i know that we've talked with the mods in the past on this thread about moving the F@H/Distributed computing stuff to it's own section instead of a few threads and i think 1 of them talked to them...
But i don't think we ever heard back and that was a while ago....

Many have tried but it falls on deaf ears.
Folding for Toms is a thankless task, this thread will reach a 1000 pages before we get any recognition or support from them.
Man I'm happy today.
Very true
...On a side note, am I doing something wrong with the folding badge signature? I can get it to appear and all, but some of the code appears in my sig as well

I had that problem as well, hit dead threads to test sigs.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/33746-12-test is one thread i used, took me an hour and roughly 4 threads to do. I think i ended up deleting the remaining code, I think it was at the end. That part of the code is not needed for TomsHardware.
Good Luck.

@malmental Welcome to the fold. I know your GPUs will be appreciated if you can dedicate any of their time to folding.
@EXT64 I see that new rig is making some noise already. Very nice.
I know we have pushed for support before and never gotten anywhere. Whether it was on sig sizes, forum sub-sections or sponsored contests we usually hear a "we are taking it under advisement..." and then don't ever hear anything more.
I think a forum sub-section at the minimum would raise visibility considerably.

Well after about a month with nothing to report from F@H, i can say that i can give something!
http://folding.typepad.com/news/
Folding@home Consortium Conference 2012
On Friday May 25 at Stanford University, we had the first "all-hands on deck" scientific conference for the Folding@home Consortium. The goals were to discuss recent scientific advances, share new techniques for how to better use FAH, as well as to plan for new infrastructure advancements in FAH for the next year.
I'll blog about some important news from the meeting in future posts. For now, I'll mention that the meeting worked out very well, with lots of new scientific advancements mentioned as well as great discussions on how we can make FAH better from the scientific and donor points of view.
Here's a picture of (almost all of) the attendees.
![]()
Pictured, from top left, going right: TJ Lane (Stanford), Dr. Jason Wagoner (Stanford), Prof. Dr. Vincent Voelz (Temple), Dr. Sidney Elmer (Sandia National Lab), Dr. Fancesco Pontaggia (Brandeis), Dr. Lan Hua (UCSF), Bruce Borden (FoldingForum.org), Joseph Coffland (Cauldron Development), Dr. Diwakar Shukla (Stanford), Dr. Lee-Ping Wang (Stanford), Steven Kearnes (Stanford), Kyle Beauchamp (Stanford), Dr. Greg Bowman (UC Berkeley), Dr. Relly Brandman (UCSF), Robert McGibbon (Stanford), Prof. Dr. Yu-Shan Lin (Tuffs), Prof. Dr. Matt Jacobson (UCSF), Prof. Dr. Jesus Izaguirre (Notre Dame), Prof. Dr. Vijay Pande (Stanford), Prof. Dr. Michael Shirts (University of Virginia), Dr. John Chodera (UC Berkeley/QB3), Prof. Dr. Peter Kasson (University of Virginia), Prof. Dr. Xuhu Huang (Hong Kong). And another post
FAHcon 2012: Dr. Greg Bowman
Here's a guest post from Dr. Greg Bowman about FAHcon 2012.
I had the opportunity to present two projects at the first Folding@home conference (which was a terrific event!). The first project focused on new protein therapeutics. It has long been known that a protein called IL-2 can help stimulate an immune response, so in theory giving people with diseases like immune deficiencies IL-2 could be tremendously helpful. In practice, however, giving them IL-2 often leads to severe heart problems. To find a better solution, collaborators at Stanford designed a variant of IL-2 that can stimulate an immune response without causing any side effects. However, they couldn't understand how it worked because the two proteins had almost identical structures! Using Folding@home, we showed that IL-2 is a relatively floppy protein while our collaborators' variant is locked into a structure that is poised to stimulate an immune response. The second project highlighted some new methods I've developed that could allow us to predict such behavior so that next time we can go recruit experimentalists instead of waiting for them to bring us interesting problems.
I'll report any more of these consortium news as they come.
