Hey everyone!

Okay so i have received a bonus this month and i have decided to build myself the best possible computer i can for £1000.

Currently i have this:

intel 3570k clocked to 4.2ghz with hyper 212
8gb corsair vengeance ram
3TB seagate HDD
60gb sata3 SSD
Zalman z11+
550w OCZ pro PSU
HD 6950 2GB overclocked to 6970.

This build works great, and i love it, but its my little brothers birthday next week and i have decided to give him this beauty! (Im trying to sort out a crossfire gaming setup for him too.. another post..)

Anyway,

From what i am aware the i3 3930x is the best CPU?

I will be using the PC mostly for work, but also gaming, which i like to do in the highest settings just for the sake of it (currently with the 6950 i have to turn AA off, it just cant handle it)

Im guessing a GPU like the 7970 or nvidia 680...

anyway, if you could reply with possible combinations of AWESOME builds, i would appreciate it

(Also i will be building the system myself, i refuse to pay labour fee's, i would rather spend that money on something more useful)

Thanks in advance

Also, i have never tried water cooling but i would like to learn... i just dont know what exactly to look for..

Also i dont need RAID, or HUGE SSD drives, i would rather have a tiny SSD and a HUGE Hdd (makes more sense in the long run..)

Dunno about UK prices but a decent start up water cooling kit would come in about 100 pounds?

no point spending that amount on the cpu

3930x is about £450 or so

games dont really benefit from more than 4 cores anyway

3570k or 3770k if you really want the hyperthreading

7970 or gtx670 is about the best graphics for a single card without paying silly money

a 256gb ssd --samsung 840 pro or similar

8gb to 16gb ram--though 8gb is plenty for gaming

good make of psu with enough headroom to maybe add another gtx670 or 7970 later

the new swiftech h220 is being released in a couple of weeks

ideal point to start watercooling

you install it like a corsair h100--its all ready to go--but quieter than h100

but has a much more powerfull pump and unlike other AOI watercoolers it can be expanded with more radiators or gpu coolin

its getting lots of good press

http://www.overclock.net/t/1345816/various-swiftech-h220-240mm-aio-water-cooler-expandable/1150

edit --should have said gtx680 isnt worth the extra money over a gtx670

gtx670 is so close in performance to the gtx680 anyway

why a xeon cpu?

I don't get that either - there's no point in a Xeon or X79 for a gaming rig. Spend more on the GPU and less on the CPU.

If you're going to do liquid cooling don't bother with a closed water block. Get a full custom loop like the Swiftech Edge.

No point in going X79.

Here's what I would suggest on this budget:

Well the Xeon is basically an i7 without the intergrated gpu so its cheaper

Well the OP was planning an i7 X79 hex core with HT so the Xeon seemed like a good balance point with 4c + 4HT

3TB HDD (For the first two builds you can consider putting in 2 x TB HDD's instead in Raid 0)
Different 7970 after looking around
3570k
850W 80 plus Silver PSU, fully modular

Put in the 7970 Ghz Edition which is top performing GPU (at least until Titan if and when it comes out)
