Running a 7970 ghz on a 550 watt PSU

Hello,
So I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to a 7970 ghz edition. Now it says that the card requires a minimum 550 watt PSU. I have one that is less than 4 months old but is this 550 watt, the bear minimum to run or will I be just fine running the new card? I would like to avoid wearing down the PSU or bottle necking (if that is possible?)

The 550 watts requirement is for total system power minimum. If the PSU is a good brand PSU putting out the rated power then it will work fine. Personally I would be uneasy at running without any headroom.
