I am looking to build a system as cheaply as possible, but I still want it to perform well.

the 2 cpus & mobo I am considering is the AMD FX 4100 with an ASRock 970 pro3 ATX, or the Intel Core i3 3220 with ASRock B75 PRO3-M.

Should I go with (2) g.skill ripjaws 4GB 1066 sticks with cas latency of 7 and save $6 or

should I go with (2) g.skill ripjaws x series 4gb 1600 with cas latency of 8 or

should I go with 1 stick of 8gb 1600 ($5 cheaper then 2 sticks of 4gb) or something different?

I am wanting 6-8 gb total while getting the best price/performance.

Also I am open to new items. I will want to use on board graphics as well if that is supported by the processors and mobo

Ram:
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) = $53 (use code USMRCHMD16)

Since you want to use integrated graphics:

With the AMD A10-5800K + BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85W Bundle

Alternatively, you can go with the AMD A10-5800K + BIOSTAR Hi-Fi A85S3 Bundle

Also, consider G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 if it is in your budget.

Thank you all for the information.

The 1066 RAM would be purchasing 2 of the same exact 4 GB RAM sticks so it wouldnt be different types of RAM.

Also I am not looking to over clock anything. That is something I have no experience with at all. I am looking for things that I can basically plug in and play. My knowledge of computers is very basic at best. I feel comfortable with my ability to connect every thing because it is something I have done a few times, but I know much about settings.

The FX APU would afford you the best integrated graphics while having enough capacity to run any application with ease. The chip is also unlocked and is cheaper than the locked version with the bundles listed above. The motherboards allow for 1866 ram which should increase the performance of the APU.

Also, there is absolutely no reason why you should be picking up 1066 ram. The price between 1066 and 1600 is negligible and warrants purchasing 1600 at a minimum. In fact, the 8gb CORSAIR Vengeance kit I linked above is currently $1 cheaper than your 2 sticks of 1066 ram.
