Hi,

I have components left over from an older gaming PC that I am looking to make into a HTPC. I will be using this HTPC for streaming from sites (amazon video and netflix), playing and downloading media. The component I would like to reuse are the following -

motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792

PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

Ram - 8gb ripjaw ddr3 1333

What processor would you guys recommend? I was thinking i3-3225 for the processor. With this processor I do not think I would need dedicated graphics but I'm up for suggestions.

And for the HDD would any harddrive surfice? Such a 1-2tb WD green HDD?

Are there any cheap and small cases someone could recommend for this?

i am afraid there is no small case for your mobo and psu. they are ATX size
i3 3225 get my votre, but if you want very low price cpu, pentium G2020 is minimum
for htpc, any hdd is welcome, even if green 5900rpm

The i3-3220 is suffice, though, make sure that the motherboard has the bios updated for the ivybridge cpus.
You can find the cpu and a 2TB hdd(7200 rpm, i don't recommend the green ones, they're slow) for roughly ~210$ in ncix us : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/l5eS
As for a case, with that motherboard, this one will do(it supports atx motherboards) : http://us.ncix.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=75057&vpn=FD-CA-NODE-605-BL&manufacture=Fractal%20Design&promoid=1276
If you can afford it.

For pure HTPC use, Celeron G1610 would also be fine. i3-3220 or Pentium G2020 would be marginally better if you can fit them in your budget.

You might consider an SSD for faster boot times and loading programs.

One issue with your build, you want a case that is small, but you have a standard size motherboard. If you want a true HTPC case, you will need to go with a new motherboard of the Micro-ATX (medium) or Mini-ITX (small) size. If you stick with your ATX motherboard, you are stuck with only a couple of options for HTPC-type cases, and they are bulkier:
