I upgraded 2 weeks ago to Windows 8 due to the Microsofts promo. It was cheap so I payed for it.

So now, I've been plaing Hitman Absolution and Tomb Raider perfectly, no problem at all. I bought Mass Effect 1, and it looked horrible, no textures whatsoever, it was like, instead of textures, just solid colors with some shadows on them, really pixelated shadows. No detail, even though I had everything on MAX. The game seemed to ignore the input and just rendered the game at the lowest of quality.

Now, I know the game is old, from 2007, but I've seen videos of the game running on a good PC and I've played the game on my 360 and I know how the game looks. It looks WAY better on the Xbox than on my PC, which has by the way an HD7870, i7 3770k, 16gb of RAM, and all. I can run Tomb Raider and Hitman Absolution maxed out perfectly.

So I downloaded Alan Wake and the text looked like if it was rendered at 360x240 and STRETCHED to 1080p. Result: couldn't understand a thing. So I couldnt manage to play because my saves on Steamcloud were lost for God knows what reason and couldn't continue and all. So I deleted it too.

Yesterday I downloaded The WItcher and the same problem again, the first scene, with the trees, there was no texture or detail in the trees, just solid green round things that were suposed to be the leaves I guess. Very low detail, looked like a game of the PSX era. Really bad looking, even though I had everything on max settings.

I deleted it too. The game had many glitches, I couldnt even take a screenshot because it crashed and I had to reboot. When I saved the game, it crashed again, but the app closed so I didnt had to reboot. What the eff?

Today I downloaded STALKER 1 and I've played the game before on a 2011 Laptop I had and the game ran fine on the IGPU, and It looked decent. On my PC, everything MAXED OUT looks like this:

This is how the Witcher and Mass Effect looked too.

Jesus Christ, I know the game is also from 2007, but this looks even worse than a game fron the Nintendo 64. I have everything maxed, Full Dynamic Lightning, Grass Shadows, LOD, Lightning distance, everything maxed, even AA, since my card can easily handle it.

I just dont know what's going on. Is this a Windows 8 thing?

I mean, I can run games and take screenshots that look like this:

Please, I will listen to every suggestion you have for me. I really need help.

Have you tried running in compatibility mode?
Changing the graphics options in the game menu?
Go to the Mass Effect website (http://files.bioware.com/masseffect/updates/)
and update the game
Also after running in compatibility mode use the icon to start the game not a client launcher :)

A bit late but hope I helped
