Suggestions Graphics Processor

I dont know alot about Graphics or processors but my laptop recently broke so i wanted to use a Very old desktop but put new parts in it to make it able to run any game i please, what would be a good power unit, Processor and graphics card to buy with out spending 300 dollars total? for all of them? I wanted to make it better then my laptop and i was thinking a GTX 650 for the graphics. I dont know much about the diffrences however the Laptop i have that is broken has a i5 processor

i5 doesn't mean all that much. Some are super powerful, so... not so much. I would get a phenom ii 965.

I might want to add the Desktop only has AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor BE-2300
Idk about Graphics i cant get on the computer
