I ordered an MSI 970A-G46 motherboard and an AMD FX-8350 CPU for a new computer build. I did some research and I found that the CPU is compatible, but I think I need to flash my BIOS. Could someone walk me through what I need to do? I also don't know which BIOS to download. I know I need a FAT32 USB but that's pretty much it. Should I flash my BIOS as soon as the computer is built?

You may need to borrow an older am3 cpu to flash your bios; but if your board works with the 8350, then I wouldn't do it. If you need to flash (no post screen), check craigslist or ebay for a sempron 140 which runs about $25 used.

So I can't do it with the 8350?

No. Assuming there's not another reason for your screen not posting, such as a weak power supply. Asus has a program for flashing off the motherboard cd, but it's not so simple. You could ship the board to msi for flashing, or look for a sempron am3 cpu on craigslist if you have one locally. Unfortunately, motherboard manufacturer's don't list the bios file number on the motherboard; only a version number. the 970a is an older chipset; newer 990fx boards may post fine with the 8350. I'd help you out if you lived in my area (austin tx). Check youtube for a troubleshooting video to be sure it's not another issue causing your board not to post: http://www.computer-how-to-guide.com/motherboard-troubleshooting/bad-motherboard-wont-start-help/

I've used msi's "live update" bios flash program several times and it works fine.
