600 dollar budget

I want to get my mobo, gpu, and cpu for preferably under $600. If you have to go a little over no big deal.
Its for gaming.. So i would like to maximize on the gpu.

I dont care if the mobo, gpu, or cpu are amd or intel. Whatever will get me the max gaming experience!

I was thinking an FX 6300, and a 7970. Would the amd processor set me back to far to make the 7970 worth it?

The i5 beats the FX 6300, even when the 6300 is with another AMD product.

Looking at the 7950 compared to 7970 it looks like it clmpletely destroys it.
And cpu doesnt matter nearly as much as the graphics card when it comes to gaming.
Thats what ive picked up from looking at benchmarks anyway..
Can you explain why the i5 would be better for gaming, even paired with a lower end graphics card? I must be missing something.
