External hard disk, unreadable, nothing helps, all recover programs freeze

Hi there,
My friends external hdd 2TB shows up.
the hdd led flickers "hdd activity"
that is evrything, its not readable.
Disk managment freeze
Easeus disk managment freeze
testdisk freeze

evrything that i try freezes.

i try to format it, and it doesn't. it fails.

im with my hands in my hair. and dont know what to do.

i fix mostly evrything, bud this out of my limits

plz help me, let me know what info u need. my answer + - 1 a 6 hours

I would go ahead and say you got a bum drive. Remember that hard drives are very delicate, and do not always take well to shipping. I suppose it depends though, is this a brand new drive, or did he have it for awhile and now it's dead?

the hdd is 1 year old, now i'm trying to fix it in linux bud i dont think its going to work

If it's a year old perhaps it's still under warranty? I'll admit, I've never had an external HDD, but with internal computer parts you'd expect a 3-5 year warranty for most things. External HDD's may or may not be the same.

I got it back working, in linux.
formatted and i can put back files on the HDD.
im only not so happy with al the payed and freeware for data recovery, no program helps.
