I am building up a new gaming/ video editing computer in the coming weeks and the only components I am undecided on are the Motherboards and and Ram. Every time I decide on something, I look up some reviews and I find that a large minority of boards are arriving to the costumers DOA or have memory slot issues, or, in the case of RAM, that there was compatibility issues or needed to be overclocked to get the advertised speed.

Here's my build so far:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Undecided
Memory: Undecided
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 680 2GB Video Card
Case: Corsair 650D ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Professional Gold 750W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

The only thing that I care about is that the Mobo has an easy to use bios, obviously is a lga1155 board, is less then $175~ and is ATX, I have no ties to any brand and no color preference. And for RAM 16gb ddr3 1600 in the 100$ range, with heat vents, once again no color or brand preference.

For the ram I'm also confused at what is better: 4x4gb or 2x8gb. Hopefully someone can shine some light on this as well.

Thanks in advance!

You can pick either one ASUS or ASrock. I will recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 and the 16 GB RAM (2X8GB). You can check the link for detail.
The ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 is favour in tom hardware.

And the 16GB (2X8GB) is better because it put less stress on the MB and if you want add more you can but if you want the 4x4GB kit then you need spend more to buy the RAM.

Ok thanks for the info, I heard though that 2x8 configuration will cause bottle neck, whereas 4x4 configuration will not. I don't mind having to buy another 4 sticks of RAM in the future, because since I'm going for 16gb now, the future should only be in another few years.
