I am looking at a Radeon HD 7870 but I am not sure what is the difference between a $370 VisionTek 9000548 and a $230 HIS H787F2G2M and a $200 XFX FX-787A-CNFC (for example).
Or the difference between a 7870 GHz edition and a 7870 XT and just a plain 7870?

Edit: In particular, I am looking at a Sapphire 7870 but there are three different models that are closely priced
$245 Sapphire 100354FLEX
$225 Sapphire 100354OC-2L
$235 Sapphire 100354XTL

The 7870 Ghz Edition is pretty much a 7870 but with a 1GHz(1000MHz) core clock, hence the name.

The 7870 XT is pretty much a 7870 but with a 7950 GPU inside it, so it peforms more like a 7950 then a 7870

The plain 7870 is the normal 7870 which is displayed on the AMD Website

The difference between the GPU companies are that they can have different coolers, different waranties, different amounts of RAM, more fans, have LEDS etc. They pretty much customize the card to prove themselves better than the other companies, which causes a lot of debate because people like features of one comapany and others like a feature of another company, but at the end of the day they all still contain the same GPU. Depending on the companies some may perform better because of the different clocks they may have for example a company may sell a 7870 and another company may sell a 7870 OverClocked edition which theoretically speaking should perform better. The best way to find the card right for you is to research reviews and read the pros and cons of each card which will help you decide on your choice.

Hope i helped :D
