phil22 :
If the laptop is not usable and you want to retrieve the data from it, remove it's hard drive and fit it inside a 2.5-inch external hard drive enclosure.
Then plug that enclosure into a USB port on any working computer or laptop after Windows has loaded.
Windows will show the external laptop drive as an icon with a drive letter.
Double-click that icon to see the data on that drive.
Because the drive has come from a different computer, some folders on it will trigger "Access Denied" error.
To rectify that, right-click the affected folder and choose "Properties".
Then click the "Security" tab and change the permissions. Click 'OK' to save the changes.
Good luck!
