I've read that i5's have better gaming than amd processors. Is that not true? The benchmarks tend to be on the side of intel for cpu's
the HDD is un-needed because I have one already and an SSD as well
Why do you think I should get a 7870 over a 7950?

Im not criticizing you in anyway, Im just a noob with computer builds and curious why you picked the stuff you picked. Any explanations would be nice :D

I picked an amd cpu because the intel socket is dead, yes the i5's are better but if you go with the fx 8350 and a good mobo you can upgrade your cpu to the new steamroller cpu's in the future.
The 7950 isn't that much better then the hd 7870 xt but if the price difference isn't to big and if you are willing to spend that extra money I think you should go for the 7950.

I don't know much about overclocking and it depends on the budget. The best cheap cooler is probably the cooler master 212 evo.
If you want to spend more you can get the:
Noctua NH-D14
or the
corsair h100(i)
If you want to spend a lot of mony you can get a watercooler but it depends on what you wan't to spend.
Again I don't know that much about cooling and overclocking.
