Need a Graphics Card! Gigabyte G41M-ES2L

Hey guys, new to this forum but I hope you will help me out! I'm a gamer at heart without the proper equipment, lol. Last year I got a custom built computor made and didn't save enough and wasn't able to purchase a Video/graphics card. Now I have the budget to get one. I don't really play the demanding titles (Crysis, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc), but I do play more simple games like SimCity 5, World of Warcraft, Arma 2 (DayZ), etc. I'd like the option of playing higher end games though if I wanted to. Now I'm not a computor whiz but I will list everything I know about my system.

I'm running a Gigabyte G41M-ES2L motherboard with the included Intel G41 Chipset for graphics atm. (Which is terrible)

My processor is: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU (Is that good? lol)

My moniter is widescreen about 20 inches.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as my OS.

I did purchase an additional RAM card so I do beleive my total RAM is 2GB if that even factors into graphics.

Thanks for any help guys and I look forward to you responses!

  1. LOL Looks like one of my systems.
Your CPU is old but should still be workable in most games/applications. What is its frequency?

I know all about the G41 chipset.

    What resolution is the monitor?

Your RAM is much too low. 64 bit really needs 4 GB to run properly. 2 GB will struggle and even less than that will crawl.

You should get another 2GB of RAM.

What is your budget for the new GPU? And how strong is your PSU?

You speak another language lol. all I can really answer out of that is my resolution: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz)

I don't need to spend any more than $200 total on upgrading at the moment.

Here is a run up of my system i did with my Razer Game booster:

  3. what is your exact processor? i used to have the very same mobo and i was able to push my E7500 (2.93Ghz stock) to 3.77Ghz though i keep it at 3.6Ghz. for 20 inches monitor the resolution usually will be 1600x900. as for the RAM 2GB is the bare minimum to have but if you can add more RAM that's even better. what is your PSU and budget for new GPU?
  4. lol late reply. you already answer some of the question. btw what is your PSU wattage?

I don't know alot about my system, i mostly paid a guy to do it and he handed it to me a month later. Everything I know I got from that diagnostic I just posted. I may actaully have 4GB RAM, I know there is the base RAM plus another card I added (It may be 2GB or 4GB, can't rememeber)

I am not sure of my PSU wattage, I realize that I should know because it will make the diff in the card I can get. I popped the hood on it earlier, and i do have the two plug in things that I would plug into a graphics card if I had one. (The 8 pin, and 6 pin)
  7. from the your previous post the system diagnostic states that you have 2GB for system RAM. right now we need to know your exact PSU before we can really recommend gpu that can match your system.

How do I go about finding this out? My PSU? The PSU is the power supply right?
  9. yup. just look at the label at the side of the unit. you should be able to find the info there

There are no labels on it. It is just a metal box with a couple stickers with random letters and numbers on them about the warranty and how if you tear the sticker it voids it, i took some pics
  11. For that budget I would go for an AMD Radeon 7850 but we still need the powersupply wattage to see if you need to upgrade it.

Okay, I found an old receipt that lists all the components I had to buy. the only item on it that looks like a PSU is: 550w dual Okia. it was $37.95

I google'd AMD Radeon 7850 and have been price shopping and everyhting i see is in the $150-$220 range and since I am going to need to buy at least 4GB of additional RAM, that will probably make my total from $190-$300. Anything over $250 is out of my price range but I would probably be able to go up to as high as $275..
  14. Get one of the cheaper forms of it it.

You can get a decent 7850 for $180 and 4GB ram should be less than $40.

If we need a new PSU it could be alittle different.
