Hello,

I need a new graphics card, I have a:
- Dell Inspiron 530
- 4gb Ram
- Intel Core Duo E7300 (2 CPUS) 2.67GHz
- Resolution: 1440 x 900

Right now I have the Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (Chip Type: GMA 3100) (256mb Memory) and I really want to upgrade..

I need Hardware T&L and the shaders which I do not have and that stops me from playing a lot of games.

Thank You!

First what is you budget? Good video card will require power supply upgrade for sure. Without power supply upgrade the best solution would be Sapphire 7750. Would you also consider memory upgrade, if it is possible? And the last question regarding CPU, if it is possible, would you consider upgrading this as well? CPU would have to come from eBay, which is generally ok for processors, or craiglist if you get lucky.

This is related to CPU upgrade only.
This is the list of Dell validated processors for you (the list is larger, but I show only superior to yours CPUs)
Wolfdale Dual Core E7300, 2.66, 3MB, 65W, M0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8190, 2.66G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65Watt, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8200, 2.66G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8300, 2.83G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8400, 3.00G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8400, 3.00G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8500, 3.16G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8500, 3.16G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0
Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

Per CPU benchmark, E7300 is 1705 and E8600 is 1830, the difference is too small to consider an upgrade.

Note. You can not upgrade to Quad with your motherboard unfortunately.

I will look for RAM for next post.

RAM. If you have 4 RAM SLOTS you can do 8 Gigs (4x2 GB).
8 Gigs Ram

REQUIRES

1. Latest Bios. This is the latest BIOS: version 1.0.18, Date added 3/11/2009 http://ftp.dell.com/bios/530_1018.EXE

2. Motherboard with 4 sockets for ram.

3. EMT64 aka 64 bit capable cpu.

4. 64 bit version of windows XP/VISTA/7.

My price range is like $200, I just want my desktop to run something like counter strike source. I don't need to run other games because I play every other game on my laptop.

RAM upgrade can be expensive, so please post how many sticks of RAM ou actually have now, also, how many total RAM slots you have (there are 5 different Inspiron 530 models were made).

So, first the most important upgrade is Sapphire 7750 for $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E... if you want RAM upgrade as well, this would be it.
If you want to spend your budget on video card only, you can upgrade power supply and get stronger card for the same money.

So, first choose Sapphire 7750 and many be RAM upgrade, or stronger video card and no RAM upgrade, in the first choice please answer questions about your current RAM and RAM slots.
