I have a double din DVD from a 2010 jeep commander. I want to get it installed into my 2004 Lincoln navigator. It will take a player that size but I keep getting people telling me that it's not compatible. I say why is it not compatible when I could buy a clarion or kenwood or any other aftermarket stereo and then have to buy the connections to hook it up to my suv. So whats wrong with using the jeep stereo and buying the right wiring connections for the other one?

If it's the stock one it will be a lot of work to install. The dimensions, as it's most likely the 730 or 430, is actually wider than an average double din head unit and matching the harness would be a real pain. Also newer vehicles have there stereos hooked up to the canbus wires so it's easy to do major electrical damage to the vehicle by hooking up a wire wrong. A 5v can wire does not like 12 volts. I would not recommend this route especially with the prices of new head units now days.

2010 head unit probably is locked to the original vehicle and can't be transferred without the dealer unlocking it. The dealer would probably charge to do it after you prove it wasn't stolen.
