I was told by some one on here that if I OC my current cpu (fx-8350) to 4.7 Ghz, it would barely perform as nicely as the XEON E5s and OPTERONs 6000s, as well as out perform all of the i7s!!! Is this seriously true?

For overall settings, http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

IF not what would I have to OC to in order to do that?

It depends on what you are trying to do with your chip.

I have my 8150 OC'd to 5.03, and for gaming a stock i5-3570k is going to push better FPS.

But, for pure calculations, especially in strongly multi-threaded workloads, it will match an i7 or xeon (generally)

well as long as you're not comparing to those Sandy-Bridge-E (LGA 2011) CPUs...
but, with overclocking, the AMD 8350 can easily defeat any i7 processor any day.
on ONE CONDITION:
you are using all 8 cores.
intel's per-core performance is MUCH higher than AMD's, so if you are using this for gaming, you've chosen the wrong processor. If you plan to do video editing and other multiple-core using applications, overclocking the FX-8350 could make it extremely powerful. You can also, by the way, overclock to much higher than 4.7 GHz as long as you have adequate cooling--you can get it up into the 5 GHz range if you have a liquid cooling system.

Depending on the use of your processor the speed could be the same. If your going to be gaming than that very well maybe true as the Intel Xeon processors are not built for gaming and more for servers however you can still use them for daily use. Also remember that while AMD may advertise their AMD 8350 as an 8 core CPU it really only has 4 physical cores and 4 logical cores. Kind of like the Intel 3770K but the cores on the AMD are more "real". For general use though, overclocking the 8350 anywhere near 5.0 GHz can very well compete with the i7 and low end Xeon processors for general programs. However, the only way your going to be able to reach these speeds on the 8350 is if you get a good enough cooler. Make sure your not using your stock fan because it wont be able to keep up and your CPU will overheat and may even break. If your looking into purchasing a cooler that can reach those speeds a Corsair H80 or a Corsair H100i will do a job well done.

Hope this helped :)

The 8350 is perfectly capable in gaming as well and is right up with the i5s and i7s in multi-core games like Crysis 3 and Battlefield 3 and performs well in any game, I've owned mine for quite awhile and it eats through any game no problems. Also a great chip for editing. If you are playing older games, an i5 would be recommended, but for recent and future games with multicore support the 8350 will perform well.

Actually, thats not entirely true, as I own an AMD FX-8350 and it performs better in everything than my friends I7-3770 in almost everything except crysis. When you said per core performance it is true, but you can download firmware from microsoft to have windows recognize the 8 cores and use them all instead of only using them all in multi-threaded applications.

Do you have a link or some guideline for doing this? Because by the sounds of it, this will greatly improve most FX processors.

I really don't remember but it was on a RazeTheW0rld video about the fx 8350.

For gaming, there isn't going to be to much of a difference, thats if your gaming at 1080p or above, once you get to them resolutions, it depends more on the GPU, unless you get a game that isn't optimized properly for PC. Intel does have faster cores, which is useful in everything, but then again it can be pushed to its limits with heavy multi threaded apps where the 8350 will start to shine.

As mentioned, depends what your gonna use the CPU for, if playing a single game then heck, the i5 would probably be a better choice, But running multiple games kinda like what I do (keep track whats going on in my servers) the 8350 will be the better choice. But is the i5 - i7 worth $200+ thats not my decision.

fx8350 is worth the price. as form the view of a gamer, one could buy a decent graphics card for the extra $200.
