Is a 7950 too good for my system (Will It just get bottlenecked?)

Hi, I've got a pretty average computer that I built 2 years ago; It's a Phenom II X955 with 6GB of ram and I currently have an old 5770 in it. It's Been going alright up until now but I just tried to play FarCry 3 and on anything other than "low" setting it's pretty bad so I consequently decided I should upgrade something. But would getting a 7950 be worth it or would I see a decent enough improvement with just a 7870?

Thanks - Jono.

Is your processor over clocked? If I was you I would get the best card I could afford and over clock cpu for now and upgrade to a fx4300

I run a 965 at 4.09 ghz on liquid cooling, so you should be able to get yours on a aftermarket cooler to at least 3.8 which would help a lot.

I also run a 7950 and only in some games to I ever see a real bottleneck between gpu and cpu. My bottleneck in is my memory system with ddr2 memory.
