It matters on what laptop its in. most likely its in a socket and u can upgrade it. but the laptop board needs to support it, but a 1.7ghz i7 is not terrible for a laptop. im still running a 1.9ghz athlon dual core in my laptop, which is now just used for web browsing, but that i7 shouldnt cause any lag unless ur gaming
